Indeed.

It shows the brilliance of the man that he knew he was going but still found it within himself to finish his musical career on his own terms and in such a memorable and touching way.

I read once that when Trent Reznor of NIN first heard Cash's version, he remarked that he didn't see it as a cover version but rather that the song was now a Johnny Cash song as opposed to an NIN one.
