I may be biased. I put my head down and hope Christmas passes by without too much fuss.

Commercialised nonsense.
My dislike/non-enjoyment of Commercialmas grows every year. Good luck to those who love it, knock yourselves out. But it's not for me, Claus.

I’d like to think it was more a message of thinking about others who might be alone at Christmas, rather than ‘our pub’s magic, come and get hammered here’! But I may be wrong …..
The Salvation Army, Shelter, CentrePoint, RNLI etc do a much better job of that imo.

But pubs don't, typically. Which means that adverts such as this one get noticed more and gets the message across to more/different people.

Or, failing that, they get talked about on footballing message boards...

What does this advert inspire you to do?

Take the dog for a walk?
Go to the pub? (already mentioned on this message board)
Buy a pint for an old man (who seems to have enough money of his own)
Go to Enniskillin to visit this pub?

It's all very well going Ah, when you see something like this, but the reality is Christmas is very hard for a lot of people.
Sentimental? yes. Reality? No.

It doesn't really 'inspire' me to do anything. But, for me, it is a reminder that there are a lot of people alone and (as I previously mentioned) I try and at least engage with those who I see out and about who may or may not be on their own. Especially at Christmas which is, as you rightly pointed out, a very hard time.

Yes, of course it's contrived and a little bit staged – it's an ad, FFS – but then pretty much every piece of produced TV/content is. If it makes one person think about other people who are on their own (anytime, not just at Commercialmas), it's made a difference. Maybe some people will think about going to the pub when they next go to Ireland, who knows and, quite frankly, who cares?

Anyway, I'm just off to walk the dog (not inspired by the advert).
