Peter Ward has been the only player that used to send goosebumps up and down my neck when he received the ball. If only we had a player of his calibre now :nono:

Agreed. For me, Kuipers has also made some amazing contributions over the years.

Its Lawro the best
Its Wardy the most exiting ( by a couple of light years)
Its Horton for best captain and Zamora the best in the last 15 years.

I find it very sad that there was no investment at Brighton, in a camera for decent highlights of our best football seasons. Why did we have to wait to see anything filmed for television??

Imagining that the club would have made the money back and then some, for years afterwards, it would have been a reasonable investment.

Just watched the 7 Everton goals and McShane was fecking shite, nearly had an error in every goal scored.

He was reduced to the role of a spectator, and bit-part player in almost every goal. Everton were incisive and too intense for Sunderland - a football lesson for them.

Everton don't WAIT to see what the other team wants to do - and that in itself should be a lesson to anyone in the game.

Never thought he was good enough for the Premiership, especially not as as a centre back , too small and too slow.

Bloody fantastic for us though.

Bobby Smith in 1960 whatever. Had played for England a year earlier. Class, although obviously passed his best.

His signing was one of those things that came out of the blue. When I heard it I thought it was a joke. It would be like Emile Heskey signing for us today.

I think Questions assessment is spot on. I can't talk for pre 70's players, but Mark Lawrenson is the best player the Albion have ever had. I don't think anyone who watched us regularly in his time here would disagree. Ward more exciting to watch, yes but in pure footballing terms no contest really. I think their respective careers post Albion bear some testimony to that. Its easy to see him now wittering on on MOTD and wonder how it was possible but I've not allowed his punditry to haze my memory!

Gotsmanov for me. Even in his twilight years he was a class above. A shame for him and us that we needed the £100k so badly.

The lad who walked around St James Park with a broken arm is a different person to the one who us irritates on Match of the Day.

Here & there
Lawrenson was without doubt the best player we've had. After he left us his partnership with Hansen in Liverpools back 4 was the best ever. They could teach Terry & Ferdinand a thing or two!
