"Pig Island" by Mo Hayder

I read on average a book a week. Just finished this book and it's a cracker, couldn't put it down, even read it while walking through underground stations. Absolutely brilliant.

Endurance - The story of Shackleton. Very good indeed. Read quite a lot this year but not much has captured me like this.

Seems to get some very mixed reviews on Amazon. One version has 2.5/5 and another 5/5 - they should probably amalgamate all reviews...

I'm pottering (pun intended) through Harry Potter at the moment, and even though its no literary giant its rather enjoyable! Just bought book 6...Haven't really got the concentration at the moment to bother with anything heavier, but will keep note of these recommendations for the day when my brain returns from where ever its gone....

I saw those reviews on Amazon too and I was very surprised. I have read all of Mo Hayder's other books and for me this is head and shoulders above anything else she has written to date.

I will attempt a brief synopsis:

The main character is a journalist who specialises in exposing bogus spiritualist/supernatural phenomena. He goes to a remote Scottish isle (Pig Island) to investigate a mysterious religious sect and also to get to the bottom of a notorious tourist video which seems to briefly show a "devil creature" walking on the beach at Pig Island...................

It's a long time since I've read a book that gave me head to toe goose pimples travelling up the escalator at the Oval.

I got the Bourne trilogy set in sussex stationers today for £5.99!!

I might get that pig island as a part of a 3 for 2 offer that most book shops seem to do, as it does sound like something i might enjoy.

Stars are Stars by Kevin Sampson isn't bad. Love, drugs, sex, rock music, drugs, violence, drugs, violence, rock music. It's all there (repeats are intentional). Oh, the occasional mention of Brighton (which isn't bad for a scouser).

Basically it's about an artist that falls in love, then they fall out and he finds drugs, and he ends up getting involved in the Liverpool riots.

I must admit I don't think I've read a bad book by Kevin Sampson.

I did also read Not Dead Enough, by Peter James.
Set in Brighton crime fiction.
I've read most, if not all, of his books & now can't help thinking he's becoming more mainstream taming down the action.
I doubt I will buy his next book.
