Very impressed with Ryan this season , if he was better at coming for crosses , he would be no 2 keeper in the Premier League IMO ,
Love his attitude as well , he will only get better as well

Because Fraser Forster is terrible.

Where has that poster been for the last two years??

I do think Hennessey is artificially high in that list: even Palace fans think he's dreadful.

Brighton
The stats confirm the obvious that Decision Gea is best and Hart is worst.
Every other position in the list is debatable.

Ah yes, the sad case of Joe Hart. At once Head and Shoulders above the rest, now he’s disappeared like his dandruff.

On the Border
All you could view this as which team has the worse defence, whereby the opposition when they shoot have created good openings where they are likely to score.

How many times do you hear the keeper had nothing to do other than pick the ball out of the net.

Indeed - it's as useful as any other single indicator of goalkeeping prowess, but little more.

FWIW I reckon it seriously undervalues Pickford and overvalues Hennessey.

'Expected Saves' is arguably a more complete and rounded single figure classification.

But I'm all for any footballstattage so the more the merrier to be honest.

Also

= 1st penalties saved.
3rd high claims (I guess that ones all relative)
= 8th clean sheets.
11th punches.

Interesting stuff. Is there anywhere that ranks keepers by expected saves?

Of course, as others have alluded to, there are other aspects of a keepers role which are harder to capture in a model. E.g. distribution, intercepting through balls, etc. A keeper who has a high save percentage could actually be responsible for a high proportion of the chances he has to face through poor distribution or being dispossessed, but would look better by this measure than a keeper with an average save percentage who rarely concedes possession in dangerous areas.

Certainly by this crude measure Pope is doing himself no harm for his world cup chances. Presumably for tournament football you'd probably want to give quite a big weighting to penalty stats, so it'd be interesting to see how he compares for that, but I suspect there's too little data to draw any firm conclusions.

Annoyingly not that I can find. I guess this is because it's something of a labour intensive number to pull together? It just seems to crop up every now and again on football stats blogs.

Interesting that you mention distribution as it's long ball accuracy where I reckon Pickford truly excels. I agree that Pope is putting in a very solid shout for the No.1 shirt though. Form an interception/bal-playing goalie perspective I suspect that the likes of Ederson & Allison are going to pretty much redefine the role that a keeper should have on a team. Garry Nelson's Left Foot is the expert here.

(Incredible also to consider the downfall of Joe Hart)

Ryan has the luxury of a decent defence reducing opposition to difficult shots for the majority of the game. He is an excellent keeper
