Lee Johnson (now at Bristol City) has had a decent career since we let him go.

Wasn't there a reason that he left us though? He played in that JPT (Might even have been LDV at the time!) game, scored, and then disappeared. What was the story there, does anyone remember?

Adams signed him on a short term contract to prove himself - he didn't - and was released. You're right though, he scored in the JPT in a 2-0 win if I remember rightly.

Probably you're right. I don't think holding onto Muir was really any kind of risk though.

The few hundred people who regularly watched the reserves at the Goldstone, could all see the guy's quality, and were all crying out for him to be given a chance. I think Lloyd just wrote him off as 'too small'.

I thought that Muir arrived a bit early for Lloyd to have any say on him.

I thought Muir came about 83'ish and left before Lloyd had a role at the club.

To be fair to the Albion, I think the trial he had with us was a good 18 months before Palace took him on, so maybe he was too lightweight at the time, or just not showing enough at that age.

However, the other part of the story I heard was that the day of the trial, some stuff got nicked from the changing rooms, and the finger of suspicion pointed to the only black kid at the trial. Hmm, that wasn't very clever Albion.

That could of course be rubbish, as I think I heard that about 3rd hand, by the time it reached me.

The decision not to take Wright (scored a hat trick in a trial and we said NO:bowdown:) was based on the decision to take Steve Penney. We couldn't afford both.

Within a year of being turned down by us Wright was playing for Dulwich HAmlet in the Isthmoian League

Withn a year of being signed by us, Steve Penney ws playing for northern Ireland in the World Cup Finals in Mexico.

So, was it the wrong decision at the time?

Muir was sold to Tranmere by cattlin (£25k???) and promptly became their record goalscorer (142 goals in 314 games) .

Despite his prolific scoring for the reserves, Cattlin never seemed to rate him and he barely appeared for the first team

I was under the impression that Roy Keane actually came here and was homesick aftera couple of days so went back home and was then picked up by Forest at a later date. Also that it was during Catlins time that Ian Wright came here on a trial from Greenwich Borough.

This is true. I lived with a Palace fan at College, and Ian Wright worked with his old man as a delivery driver.............. Wrighty was sacked for delivering to the "wrong people" , he said profits went through the roof after he left. He was a thieving little C**t

I'm sure you have your reasons but be a little bit careful about what you post if you're writing stuff like that...could be deemed a tad libellous!

Tony Towner and Andy Ritchie had pretty good careers after leaving us (for not very much). Lawro did well at Liverpool, but fair's fair, they paid a good price for him. The directors refusing to sign Denis Law (on a free) was a bit of a blip though.........................
