One thing that is strange is the paucity of decent films about cricket. This, along with boxing, is the number one sport as far as literature is concerned and yet can't deliver in the cinema. The only attempt I remember is a dreadful film called The Final Test.

Although a C4 TV film, Ptang Yang Kipper Bang is a wonderful Jack Rosenthal film about cricket and also co-stars a very young Mark Brailsford.

Happy Gilmore, Slapahot and White men can't jump are three of the best sporting comedy films.

Rocky, Cinderella man, Million Dollar Baby, Any Given Sunday and The Natural.

On another note. I did rather enjoy the rugby sketch on Monty Python's 'Now for something completely different' although I understand that this is not a film.

It is indeed rather wonderful. Wasn't it one of C4's very first films?

There was also a film out last year about a white boy growing up in a West Indian neighbourhood that focuses on cricket but can't remember its name or who was in it.
