Get him back... El-Abd will NEVER be a midfielder, no matter how much the club or he himself talk about it; he is RB cover... and thank goodness we now have Whing on board...

Some interesting points for and against Bertin's return on this thread but I would definatly like to see him back at the Albion, I thought we looked pretty solid in centre midfield last season when he was paired with Hammond.

I was hoping Race might vote on this poll so we could have a view from the dressing room ???

Bloody hell. Some of you just don't MISS a chance to run down a passionate servant of the club and stripes - and just to give a slight compliment to some over-rated NOB who doesn't even want to play for us!! :shrug:

Midfield is el-Abd's best position, it was proven by several performances there last season. We need one player who will get stuck in in the middle of the park, and display some spirit.
Bertin was never that player, and he's not all that, either.

El-Abd is a utility player, he's adequate in a few positions but not really good enough to start in any of them (if he are aiming to finish top 10 at least), much like Hart. He played a few excellent games in midfield (Huddersfiled and Bradford aways particularly), but mostly looked pretty limited. I thought Fraser looked better against Reading.

Word, but it seems thats what some people see as an ideal world.

The thing is it wasn't even like Bertin was lazy, he looked like his mind was elsewhere for the last few games (could say the same about most of them), but he was out of contract, and I seem to remember Ian Hart saying on the phone in that his 'advisers' thought he was destined for bigger things, so it's not surprising. Maybe if he did come back now he would be less inclined to believe everything his agent tells him!

I didn,t think he was interested in the last few games either. Would have huge concerns about his ability to play a whole English football season with a "less than committed" attitude.

the man is probably just keeping his options open,having never seen him play but read peoples posts about him he sounds like a player we could do with.

Y'know, I don't want a player here who doesn't think we are that interesting to turn out for. Unlike some previous manager, Dean Wilkins is not likely to be alienating a player like Bertin - so what's his excuse for 'bothered?' playing?
As a professional, you should love the game enough to put yourself out!

If I was put on a pitch for a local pub side, I really am going to try every match, not wander about like I'd rather be shopping - but if I was getting PAID to play football..... !! What are some players even in this profession for?
If you are there getting money to play football, and getting cheered by thousands of people into the bargain, and getting people respecting you and asking for an autograph and kids wanting to be like you and women liking your image and every other effect - I'd put myself out big-style, if I had the chance to be a professional player!

Has something changed about this game, since I was a lad in school, or WHAT is going ON??

:clap::clap::clap:

el-abd is not good enough to be starting this season - whing is the better right back, lynch, butters and hinshlewood, possibly even elphick are better centre backs, and reid and hammond are better central midfielders
