he's always been the right man ability wise. His hissy fit in not playing for U21's has been the question mark against him

I think if they play that formation you need pace on the flanks so SWP or Lennon

R.E our conversation about this last I agree. You have skill and guile in Cole on one flank, you need pace and directness on the other. Anyone of SWP, Lennon or Young would do.

With their pace they are more likely to get forward to support the lone striker quicker when we attack.

I still think SWP is the best on the right, give alot more options in regards to running at players and putting in a cross and also cutting inside and going for goal, Bentleys final ball at times was shocking they defintley bummed him up on the bbc. was a average performnce from England and he stood out as he was trying to prove a point, I could see most players playing better than they did last night, But was that bentley at his best? if so hes not good enough yet!

I don't understand where all this rubbish about Bentley having a good game yesterday has come from. Having been actually at the match last night I confirm that, at best, he was ineffective.

All he ever did was pass back to his full-back. He only put in one cross during the entire match (which beat everyone on the park and some people in the front few rows too!!), and NEVER looked like he was going to trouble the fullback he was up against.

surely it depends on form, opposition, tactics and other England players available and how they fit together. Isnt this the problem we had with sven then mcclaren, players supposedly the only one to play certain positions no matter what?

Bentley had a good game (there's some prejudice about him that needs to gotten over imo) but SWP and Lennon on his return are going to be rightly pressing for the place, and dont right Beckham off yet (predict he'll be back in Premiership in next 18mths). One thing England is not short of is good midfielders, its a question of getting the tactics right.
