Don't you have to name a 25 man squad by a certain date meaning they will have to wait now ?

Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named.

This is why they had to release the player above, or they would have had to include him.

It's an opportunity for someone, you have to expect the replacement (and the player bumped up onto the bench) will be making the most of their chance and trying hard to stay there when Benteke's available again. An injury is not always the worst thing that can happen.
