I saw an analogy once that went something along the lines of... A man is in hospital with a broken leg. There's someone on another ward with terminal cancer. Does it mean the guy doesn't feel pain in his leg?
The skiing was an example. Many have commented that they would gladly sacrifice skiing for 50k a week. I would too. But I've never been skiing, so wouldn't miss it, and if ice skating is any form of comparison, I wouldn't be very good. But perhaps skiing is much more than that for Bendtner. Perhaps it evokes childhood memories of family holidays, a time when he could forget his troubles (and early football training before it became such a career) and just be a kid on hlida having fun with his folks. Perhaps it is the thing he loves most behind football. Put some other sacrifice in there if it helps. How many of you would be happy to get 50K a week if it meant never being allowed to watch the albion, or listen to the matches or check the results? How many of you would give up your second greatest love for a great wage doing your first greatest love? What if it wasn't just your 2nd greatest love you had to give up, but your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th greatest things because they interfere with your ability to do the first?
Is stating what you have sacrificed to get to where you are complaining? I don't know.
Would I be interested if bendtner was sat in the same restaurant as me? like a lot of you, no. But then, I'm sure a lot of us would be interested if it was Glenn Murray or Elliott Bennett, or Inigo Calderon and most arsenal fans wouldn't care about them.
Why say it? Well, I'd imagine the topic came up in an interview. The down side of football, the sacrifices one has to make if they want to reach the top, all sorts of typical topics that can come up in some interviews with sportsmen and women of all ilks.
50k a week a lot, too much for how good he is? Probably.
Have people missed the point he was making in a rush to criticise him both for who he is, and his wage/career? Almost definitely.
