I could easily see White playing out the season in midfield. We look a very resilient and well drilled with Veltman at RWB and Burn is doing ok at LCB, maybe Matt Clarke coming back gives us suitable cover or replaces Burn. Once Lamptey is fit again I’d be super tempted to play him advanced in the right side of the front 3, his pace is too much for any defender and he could get a lot of joy with a solid player like Veltman behind him.

I strongly suspect you're right, but we don't know Bloom's finances. I think Bloom wants us to be a conveyor belt club, and wouldn't stand in the way of players being transferred to top clubs for large fees, in order to further their careers.

I think the conveyor belt is exactly what bloom wants not just with those 4/5 players who the club will potentially receive the big bucks for but also a conveyor belt to foreign leagues and to the lower leagues for a much greater number of players who don’t quite make it here.
Long term sustainability is what he wants I believe and he has built the foundation with the academy and investments in the next generation of a players. It looks like he will start to see those rewards soon but I suspect a lot of them will be sold on his terms .
He was clearly right not t to allow white to move on. We would be looking for double the 25 million at least if he were to move on this summer

Interestingly, his two best performances in centre midfield have come when Bissouma hasn’t started. Maybe that’s more than a coincidence and there’s an issue about the areas on the pitch they take up?

Good spot. White’a disciplined performance certainly aided MacAllister and Gross who seemed in a more free role. (MacAllister was SO good).

I wonder if White & Biss do play together whether MacAllister could play in front of them in a more fluid role.

I'm just relieved that we've saved the lad's career by picking him up from Leeds.

Imagine if he'd had to go and play in their defence all season: it would have ruined his career and his undoubted talent would have gone totally to waste. At least here, he can be improved immeasurably by a coach who knows how to defend.

Good pressing. Good interceptions. Good spatial awareness. Always has his head up and picks out passes forward (instead of just sideways), and is generally accurate.

He's a holding midfielder with a good eye going forwards. I think it's a good spot for him.

When Lamptey is fit I'd have Veltman take his CB position.

Him and Webster had no problem taking the ball up the pitch yesterday. And it was a bit bonkers seeing him down the right at times.

This is always an interesting argument. The meme used to be that we had too many CBs.

Looking at the DMs/Mids I see it like this (just my opinion - and I do rate these guys):

Bissouma - reminds me of Viera but not Pogba (meaning he's tremendous at winning the ball back, but not at picking out a forward pass).
Molumby - not as good (yet?).
Gross - not as strong defensively. Can argue not as "accurate" at forward passing anymore...
Lallana - can play the role. Fantastic going forwards. Not as good defensively as White.
Alzate - been a while now since we've seen him. Not as good defensively. But more creative.
Moder - hope he's amazing!
Sanders - good all rounder and I like what he can do going forwards. Needs game time.
Caceido - hope he's amazing (sounds like it but could take time to settle).

I think white revels in the holding midfield role and really bosses it.
At CB he looks like Dunk's sidekick.

Play the strongest 11. If Veltman and Lamptey are fit I'd push White into the holding midfield role and let him continue to develop.

Honestly I'm not going to die on this hill but I think he's a good holding midfielder.
Transitions quickly, good spatial awareness, good going forwards, has a fine (accurate) long pass on him, great at pressing and intercepting higher up the field, and has the potential to score from outside the box.

I don't have a problem with him as a CB or DM. Really depends on the opposition and tactics, where we want to press etc.

I'll get sh&t for this post, but it's all opinions at the end of the day - although there are some good stats already for White in this role.

Can't argue with that. And I think the closeness of the argument just confirms that we see him as versatile. GP loves that - I just hope it doesn't hinder his England chances (as I think it did for Gary Stevens when he moved to Spurs).

Is a rock and plays great possession football. But more of a sideways passer of the ball. Or a nicer way of putting it, good at switching play over to the other side, stretching play.

That lineup would be great against the bigger sides but would struggle against the likes of West Brom and Burnely. White and Bissouma are not creative enough to play next to each other.

Not sure if the hyper sensitive Dirty Leeds fans have picked up on this. He's very careful to flatter Leeds and then refers to playing the "big teams" but qualifies that as Man City on Wed, not Leeds yesterday. They won't like that.

Last season, nobody on our team made more progressive passes or passes into the final third than Propper.

Fair. I may have been a bit harsh on Propper. He was an absolute rock. So much of the possession went through him last year. Even if it felt like it was often going sideways with very little penetration.

Regarding White, there have been glimpses where it is clear he can be more creative, direct and accurate, finding those forward passes into the final third. E.g. against Man City per these stats below.

With a little more coaching and encouragement I think he could be a lot more dangerous going forwards.

At the end of the day, all I'm really saying is I quite like him in midfield (particularly when we have two wingbacks, two up front, a number 10, and overlapping CBs - all creating).
