From what I can gather, their four best players last season were: White (going back to his home club); Phillips (granted, good player, important for them, will do well in the PL); Hernandez (their creative force, with PL experience, but he's 35); and, step forward, Patrick Bamford (remind me how well he's got on in the PL; PS he's their only striker).

Sorry, but I have to correct you re Bamford, as he's not their only striker. They have the injured Augestin, who didn't meet Bielsa's standards and having failed to wriggle out of their contract with Leipzig, will now have to pay £18m for.

White is in demand so it would be a bit unusual if him and his agent were not using that situation to enhance any offer on the table by the club. It’s going to be a tough negotiation as the club hold all the cards given he still has up to 3 years left on current deal.

Am sure they will settle on some middle ground but given he has an existing contract I would think the club are pretty relaxed about how long it takes to agree something

Not saying he is not, but do we actually know if Leeds have made an offer or anyone else for that matter. I know the fans claim he's on the way but their opinion counts for nothing in the real world?

Doesn't this fixation with Ben White show a lack of ambition on Leeds Fans part for proven quality? He is obviously well on his way to becoming a top player in a couple of years time, but currently has 1 season in each of the 3 lower divisions, he is completely untested at the top table. As others have said, he may well make the step up, but equally he may well struggle to find his feet. Being the main man at Leeds would prove a disastrous situation if he turns out to be even only an average prem player , at least here he can be bloodied and eased into the team, with plenty of backup if required. A couple of hard first games where they are turned over could really damage his confidence, and with no back up, Leeds could find themselves with a big defensive problem. Other reports show Leeds chasing good Championship players as well. By chasing Ben as the starting CB, with zero top flight experience to help Leeds get a sound start, can you imagine a starting run of games against top 6 opposition, Leeds getting turned over, and then a battle to survive with a confidence shot back line with no back up till January. Season could effectively be over by Christmas

Their fixation with Ben also undermines their whole “Bielsa made him the player he is” narrative.

Ok fine. So if Bielsa made him as you say, then just take another u23 (one of your own perhaps) and do your magic on him. Move on. What do you need Ben White for?

Who cares? Their fixation with White means that we get an inflated transfer fee. Leeds’ problem if they want to blow over 50% of their transfer budget on an unproven player.

Bamford has scored once in 27 Premier League appearances, and only scored 16 goals last season despite all these chances that were apparently being created for him. He might get into double figures with less games and less chances this coming season, but Bielsa is really going to have to work his magic on the lad to improve his success rate!
