Of course we knew his potential. Defenders mature later than strikers. He was voted Player of the season at Newport County. He signed a new contract last July before he went out on loan, and refused to allow Leeds a loan to buy deal.
We have an excellent U23 manager in Simon Rusk, a director of football, Dan Ashworth who has worked with England youth teams, a loan manager Stewart Weir, a CEO Paul Barber who has worked with Spurs & the FA, (and Liverpool tried to poach from us) plus Tony Bloom as a chairman, yet you still don’t trust our club’s judgment?

Fantastic running of the club. We are allowed to question the odd bit of judgement here and there though. I would say, and it's easy in retrospect, that we could have trusted White to have stepped up last summer, Championship experience or not. Easy for me to say it, but I'm not a football professional (clearly).

I wouldn't be surprised if White hasn't been incredibly unsettled by all this, he does probably love being in that Leeds side that won a title, and he may wonder if he'll get in ahead of Dunk and Webster. It's not an ideal scenario that we have our own player back who may well feel we didn't trust him enough in the first place to be good enough.

East Sussex has a population of 800k.

Why are you on a Brighton forum posting about Sussex demographics?

If your Mum and Dad allow you to, and will lend you the money for the train fare, why don’t you come down next season and see Sussex and Brighton for yourself - we’ve got a pier with an arcade on it - I’m pretty confident you’ll like it.

Whatever the case, it’s highly indulgent to even think for a second anyone cares for your opinion - I don’t think anyone has asked you for it?

Seriously, go run yourself a hot bath, whack on some Kenny G and try and enjoy the rest of your day.

We've always known his potential. The plan for his development is being stuck to.

He still hasn't proven he's up to Premier League standard. That comes next season.

As someone said before his development has been managed exceptionally well.

Leed's fans whining notwithstanding of course.

Forget Leeds fans if we can for a second (I'm not sure what their relevance is?), as said above, the truth of it is likely that he is fairly unsettled by all this. As you've said we might not feel he's ahead of Dunk or Webster, or even Burn for that matter, and yet he knows at Leeds he'd be first choice for all 38 PL games. I'm not sure you can say this has been managed exceptionally well.

White will know as well as anyone that had the club had absolute faith in him, he'd have PL appearances under his belt by now, signing Webster and sending him out at 22 years old was hardly a ringing endorsement in his ears of where we valued him last summer.

Had Potter arrived a year earlier and the way he has given youngsters a chance, I doubt we'd have loaned White out at all.

We have no idea where Potter plans to utilise him in his system.

All this talk of him being held out by a Dunk or Webster is pointless if Potter wants to use him in other roles besides CB.

The loan manager is David Weir, not Stewart. Ex Everton and Rangers player. Should know a thing or two about player development.

It's called a development plan put in place long before Potter, each season is a step up. With regards to Webster, he had championship experience already but he has still taken time to bed in.

Quite. We don't know, he doesn't really know, Potter probably doesn't know until he actually tries him in a PL game in a role.

For White, he does know exactly what his role will be at the club who wants to sign him, and that he'd likely play every game. Forgetting all the sniping at Leeds fans for a second, I don't think we've put ourselves in a great position with this one, I think his success has come as a big surprise, and unlike some, I don't think we did see his potential as being quite what has happened at Leeds for him. Why on earth would we have loaned him out if we saw the potential that he is showing now last summer?

We loaned him out because we thought he was ready for the Championship.

We were right.

Just how many gambles did you expect GP to make last season as he changed our style of play completely? White had only played League One and Webster was one of the best defenders in the Championship. We must have seen something in White by being very clear that Leeds could not loan to buy.

If White is unsettled he needs managing, he does not call the shots. He may need some tough love and a change of attitude, IF he is pushing for a move. Until he accepts the situation he will not be in the first team.

Patience is a virtue! White may need to learn it or just maybe he is failing the no dickheads policy and he will be shipped out. Whether that is to Leeds is another matter.

Personally I think he will accept a new contract before the season starts and be pushing for a place. He is exactly the type of defender GP likes and is now ready to make the step up, not as a guaranteed starter straight away but by season’s end he may well be.

We thought he needed a season in the Championship. Small steps building towards the Prem. Same with Clarke last season, whereas Webster had proven himself at that level already.

By that reasoning Manure never saw potential In Beckham then?

We're in a bloody great position with all this now.

Kinnear on Sky Sports News just now.

"We have to be respectful that he's a Brighton player, he's training with them currently... we have other options and we'll be closing in on one of those soon".

It's over Leeds fans. Oh, it never actually started because "Not For Sale" meant exactly what it said on the tin.

Are there actually suggestions White is getting unsettled now? This is getting ridiculous!
We know absolutely nothing about all this and we all know the club are very strict on keeping all this stuff confidential. It was only last season the club sacked some members of staff for putting up the team lineup on NSC before it was officially announced. As if anyone knows anything more anout this saga other than White buying a house down south.

The Leeds managing director was just on Sky Sports News. He said it will be very challenging to sign Ben White and they have other targets so it does seem they are on the verge of giving up.

You do realize how big the Leeds-Bradford area is don't you?

It's much larger than Liverpool and it's not shared by two clubs.

Kinnear has stated that with TV revenue, new kit deals and a new major sponsor, they are forecasting Leeds will be in the top 7 of EPL revenue earners in 2020.

West Ham were 7th with revenue of ~£190M in 2019. Tottenham were 6th with ~£365M . Leeds will slot in somewhere probably north of £200M.

Everton were 8th. Brighton were 15th with £132M.

Leeds revenue absolutely dwarfed the next largest in the Championship and that includes the likes Fulhum, Derby, West Brom, Middlesbrough, Forest, Swansea, Cardiff etc.

You can talk shit about them as much as possible regarding White, call their fans ****ing idiots etc, but their fans rock up, they pay their hard earned. They are one of the biggest kit sellers in the UK and have 30k on their waiting list for a season ticket at ER, they would be able to sell it out two times over this coming season if the fans were allowed back.. Commercially, they are a huge club. and given any sort of ongoing success, probably have as much potential growth to reach the next tier of someone like Tottenham's revenue level as any other side in the league.

Including your beloved Everton.

They haven't broken the bank buying their way into the league under Bielsa, infact they've spent basically nothing in the previous 2 transfer windows. Low wage bill etc means if they consolidate in the PL, they will probably improve fairly rapidly with a lot of net income at their disposal. Especially when you think how much Everton and West Ham have unloaded in the transfer market recently and they will have very comparable revenue levels.

So enjoy the shithousery, but hope like hell they get relegated, because you have all of about 12 more weeks to enjoy any sort of financial advantage over them.

so how many first team players have you got under contract as of now?

I suspect that he is unsettled by all this fuss. However, this fuss is caused by the plan coming to fruition IMHO. He is in demand because he has been managed exceptionally well.

I am not prepared to speculate on how he feels or what he thinks but I will say that I assume that he has been consulted with throughout his career. It may even have been partly or wholly his choice to join Leeds at the beginning of the season to aid his devleopment rather than play a bit part role at Brighton. We really don't know.

Would be interesting to know Potter's view on it as I doubt he had any say whatsoever. Potter signed on 20 May, White was a Leeds player by 01 July. So no pre-season or friendlies for Potter to have a look.

We do know Potter wanted a ball player CB and by 02 Aug we signed Webster. Hypothetically we can't know if GP had seen White properly in pre-season, whether he'd have kept him in the squad as that ball playing CB. Let's not forget we had Duffy, Dunk and Burn as CBs already, we weren't exactly weak in this position to have kept White as 4th choice at that time.
