But that can't be true. Leeds fans say we had no idea how good he was and that he was nothing before he went to Leeds and why would they talk rubbish

Well, if Leeds say it’s true it must be. The only thing niggling away is if Leeds are as mighty as we all believe they are, and Bielsa the best wisest coach, why didn’t they loan him after his first season at Newport, why wait, they would have almost by definition been promoted a season earlier. I must be missing something

The thing I don't get is this.

If Bielsa is so good, why hasn't he turned Liam Cooper from a village player into a competent PL quality centre half? Why only White?

Simply biding his time. Doesn’t want to show all his cards. Premier League better watch out. MOT etc

I know. It's almost like he didn't want to take the risk on a player jumping two divisions. But, after seeing him do well at Peterborough, he was suddenly keen on him. Almost like our development of him. Loans going up a division each year and now ready to feature for us in the Premier League.

But that can't be true. Leeds fans say we had no idea how good he was and that he was nothing before he went to Leeds and why would they talk rubbish

In 2016 after watching Ben White in the u23's Brighton realised that he had potential. A decision was made by CH and the backroom staff at all levels that it would be beneficial to send him out on loan. The club drew up a development plan on what level and to what clubs would best suit Ben's development. You don't just ring up any club and tell them they have a player who they want to send out on loan, will you take him. Due diligence and a lengthy process identifies the club's suitable for him.it's about how stable that club is, the type of football they play and what the manager is like.
Newport county was decided, Ben White improved under the tutelage of Bryan Flynn. Even to the extent that he stood out whilst playing against Leeds in the FA cup. This was noted by the Leeds development people. Brighton would have their own people watching his playing time and regular contact between representatives of Brighton and Newport along with Brighton's player liaison officers with the player himself. Video highlights of game time would also be sent back to Brighton. After the loan and season finished It was Brighton original plan to send White out again to a league 1 side, Brighton had a shortlist of clubs from league 1. Leeds made an enquiry about a possible loan move to them, but Bielsa was still not convinced, White continued to excel in the Brighton U23, and at the end of 2018 a decision was made to loan White out again, this time to Peterborough until the end on the 2019 season.
On his return It was decided another loan to a championship team would be ideal, a shortlist of teams were identified, Leeds and Derby were the top of the list. Brighton prefered the Leeds loan, due to them just missing out on Promotion, and expectant fan base, along with the type of football Leeds had played the previous season. It was about how he can handle the pressure. Leeds agreed but on the condition of a right to buy for £8 million at the end. Brighton said no, and began to set in motion a loan to Derby. Leeds then advised Brighton that they would take White on loan.
During his time on loan regular dialogue between both clubs took place, along with regular meetings between Brighton development officers and the player himself. The loan was nearly cut short as White had some doubts about how he was coping, as Bielsa training and fitness regime was tough. The rest is history.

With regards to Brighton signing new players a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Take for instance the Maty Ryan transfer, Brighton had already identified him as someone they were interested in some 15 months before he put pen to paper.

Leeds weren’t ready for Ben White then.

Leeds were ready and willing to take him on loan, It was Bielsa who was not sure at the time.

But .... but .... but .... he's godlike! It's in the rules - he's never wrong.

I think that's what Wancoe and Twatter keyboard warriors are trying to explain to Brighton, a poor little club that is just being greedy, as well as abusing a player who should be allowed to stay at the small club in Yorkshire that he loves?

Agree with all you say, but why this:

?

Because until Leeds started their futile attempts to prise him away we had a long term plan for the boy which (I imagine) had Tony and GP thought that (once he’d gifted Leeds the champs) we’d have a good season out of Ben before a suitor arrived from Anfield to scoop him up.

Now we’ve got a player with 2 years on his contract, Leeds spunking all over this screenshots and a new “helpful” agent leaking to the press about Whites messages of love being texted to “herr klippity” during lockdown. If Leeds had behaved honourably instead of a comical one way bidding war Ben might not have been refusing improved contract talks with the Albion as he...admittedly anecdotally...sees his chance to join the current European and English champions.

It’s certainly not disputed that Chelsea and The bin dippers have been tracking the lad for the last two years. I just mean that if the loathsome whippet fanciers hadn’t tried to..literally...bite the hand that so generously feeds then I think Liverpool would have probably waited for another season. As it is, if I were Klopp, I’d be tempted to secure the player now rather than risk someone else sticking their oar in.

I seriously hope they aren't anything like NK - if they have a nuclear weapon their supporters are mad enough to drop it on us if White doesn't go there

Luckily...they don’t have a nuclear weapon. They still point at aeroplanes there mate.

Mind you they do have an extremely large and lard smothered chip that, were it ever to fall off their shoulder would cause earth tremors as far south as Sompting.

Thanks for this thoughtful and detailed summary fella. By any chance could you send this précis to the Leeds advertiser or whatever the **** they wrap their battered sausages in in that filthy yard?

Thanks.
