It's going to be a bit awkward if he does end up signing for leeds.

Why? We get a shed load of dosh for someone who has not played in the league for us, and I'm sure there's would be a large sell on clause. However why sell to Leeds, let them suffer and then there's one relegation slot filled. If bucket granddad does sign he'll soon foxtrot oscar after a few months of misery

Leeds fan here.

With all due respect you should your club should not be holding Ben White to Ransom. Lets be honest you didn't want to know him before he was loaned out to Leeds, your coaches clearly didn't see much potential in him and he has flourished under Bielsa. I'm not implying that you should only sell him to Leeds but he clearly doesn't have any desire to play for Brighton. Liverpool or Chelsea etc could get him but is he guaranteed playing time with them? He is guaranteed with Leeds and he is Bielsa's top target and it looks like Leeds will up their offer, but for a team that did not play him a year ago he is now the best thing since slice bread to you.

If I was a betting man I would say that he will not go forward under Potter (unless you think Potter is a better coach than Bielsa) which would be laughed at by everyone and I think we will more than likely end up with him. Well over £20m will be a fantastic bit of cash for him. The only thing that will also break it for you is if White puts in a transfer request which im guessing will happen.

Im expecting you to slag me off with replies and telling me to F-off etc because I don't think many will have any constructive repliesm
You're wrong. Enjoy your season in the Premier League without your beat player.

Chelsea have bid £50m for Declan Rice apparently. So they’re presumably out of the running for Ben? Assuming they’re buying him for centre back of course.

The awkwardness will be (as usual) that the fee will be 'undisclosed', and the Delusionals will be spouting off that they won and 'we got him for 10m because he wanted to leave/refused to play/hated Brighton etc etc (the reality will be at least £35M+ add-ons of course)

IF he does they will be splurging a big chunk of their budget.....to not improve their team one iota. He may go but it will be for a record transfer fee for a player who hasn’t played above the Championship in England

I get that your Albion mojo is very low but try and be just a little bit positive occasionally

I don't think the awkwardness he is referring to is on the club, or on the posters who view it as win-win (we either get a big fee or a good player). It would be on the loud, repeated definitive 'he's not going anywhere/we'd be stupid to sell him/I can't understand how our own fans are so eager to get rid/We're not a small club anymore, we don't sell our players/What's the point in the academy if we sell any good player/leeds fans are delusional if they think they're going to get him' from a vocal number of brighton fans that would be a but awkward, if he ends up going there.

Aren't they looking to pretty much overhaul their defence? They'd need more than one signing to do that. Of course, that is also assuming the Rice bid is accepted.

The season hasn't even started yet and I'm already sick of Leeds fans. I look forward to them f##king off back to division 2 where they belong.

And can the mods please start banning Leeds fans? They make that Palace smug prick Dougie appear almost bearable. There isn't one that adds any value to this site, and that includes that one who joined 8 years ago with the patronising wife who also used his account.

Yeah, but if Dunk and Webster stay it could be said that we are overstocked with CBs and for the right price I don’t see how it would be awkward if TB decides to let him go. I just hope it’s not to Leeds, that would be annoying and we’d have to live with the gloating, but it’s hardly going to be awkward:shrug:

The academy is there to produce players and make or save us money. Selling White would fulfil that aim, as would keeping him.

He looks exactly like any young lad looks when the girlfriend’s father is trying to be his mate, not at all comfortable. Well I guess that means he’s gone, clearly Leeds through and through

Interesting T shirt...
I have this palm angels t-shirt, the lad obviously has taste [emoji41]

I'm beginning to suspect these people are more into Ben than their actual football team. So if he is still with us when the window slams shut it looks like we are getting ourselves some converts up north.

True, but shouldn't the academy's primary purpose be to supply the quality of player we couldn't otherwise afford? Thus improving us overall.

The academy graduates we choose to sell should be those who fall below the standard of improving the first team.

If he is likely to improve the first team we should keep him, until he makes it clear he wants to leave by requesting a transfer.

I thought the whole point of the academy was for this sort of player. He’s there to improve our squad, hence why we’ve allowed him to have so much experience in the lower leagues. We don’t make our best players to sell them, we are better than that now.

To sell him to a relegation rival would be quite disillusioning.

I think he would rather play for us, sure he will have big competition for his place (unlike at Leeds), but that’s what it’s all about and he will be coming into a squad that has proven that they can stay up (again, unlike Leeds).

Funny how so many Leeds fans say stuff like ‘he’ll be a bench warmer at Brighton’. What?...So, they are saying all our defenders are much better than him, but we’ll be in a relegation fight when they won’t be. What a bunch of weirdos. Seems like a lot of them actually believe they will challenge for top 6 :O

He's only good with Bielsa's magical touch. My mate was a season ticket holder at Newport County and told me he was shithouse

Much of Ben White's worth is potential. A bad season can take that away.

(again, I feel compelled to write because some people (not you hans) struggle with nuance, grey areas, and complexity, no, I'm not saying we should sell him).
Oh we (or many of us, but not most Leeds fans) do understand nuances and everything else about the Ben White situation. Yes, he might turn out to be not good enough for the PL and his price would then drop. However, we appear to have a chairman who is quite happy to say, 'OK, I'll take a £22M (or £27M plus a year's supply of black puddings or whatever) punt on that not happening'.

If only he was a professional poker player with a crack team of advisors, experts and risk assessors to advise him, eh?

I think it'll be a dignified silence to the media, with a simple 'no thank you' to Leeds. TB ain't gonna be seen being bullied into a deal. All the silly noises from the Leeds fans will do is steel his resolve. I can think of a publicity loving chairman from not far away that would love the attention though.
