With respect, that totally misses the point. It doesn't matter what we think Ben is worth, the point is that we don't want to sell so if we say, ok you can have him for 40m and a club wants to pay that, then so be it.

A player is only worth what two clubs agree on.

The Free BW stupidity is actually a joke on Leeds but their bellend fans don't realise that. You CAN free him by giving us 40m. It is a simple as Leeds fans. Not all of them, just 99.9% of them.

Agree, the valuation of BW is heavily inflated because of some of the views of not so clever leeds fans.

Yes but for free, we can keep him, improve our team and vastly weaken Leeds'. That sounds like quite a nice deal to me.

Yep. Would LOVE it if we string Leeds along until deadline day, THEN announce that White has signed a new contract (4 weeks earlier). We have no rush to do anything at all - Tony not only has the best hand, he can also see what the other players have.

The Albion are playing a blinder here new season less that 5 weeks away and we have already recruited well and looking to strengthen further. The Ben White situation is just not a priority for us as we have depth and he is under contract.

Meanwhile Leeds and their fans are desperately waving their hands and knocking on the clubs doors desperate for our player to join them just to stand still. The white signing could also be one of these mysterious demands Bielsa is apparently making before signing his contract which would just be even funnier.

Can see this running for another couple of weeks so squeaky bum time for our Yorkshire friends

Tick tock, tick tock the PL start is very close now

Time very much on our side as you say. The longer we string this out, the more desperate Leeds get.

We can hold off, browse through a catalogue of expensive strikers and work out whether we need an injection of cash to fund it or we don't

We shouldn't sell to Leeds at any price.

However if a 30+ bid comes from elsewhere we need to strengthen our goal scoring and attacking options in the immediate window more than we need to retain all of our defensive prospects, however bright their futures turn out to be.

when does bielsa's current deal expire. Can we make him director of football?

It's already expired. Leeds have offered him a new one and he's still considering it. His acceptance apparently is caveated on Leeds making signings that he feels are acceptable. He has them over a barrel.

He may be a good coach but he would never fit in here as he's a complete one man show, wanting control of everything. He then tends to have a strop and leave the club. Remind you of another South American?

And to keep banging the same old drum, Bielsa still hasn't signed a contract. They should be far more worried about that the way they're beatifying him than starting ridiculous campaigns against Amex of all people. If that contract negotiation has stalled because they can't sign Ben White then Leeds are more screwed than I thought they were. Plus, why would Ben White go to Leeds when Bielsa could bugger off on a whim and he gets lumbered with another Steve Evans character as manager? The way things are at the moment, he'd be settling into a proven group of Premier League players, Potter has already said he's in the picture for the first team, the club rate him highly with the previous contract. Job done. All the rest is hot air. Don't get me wrong, it's amusing to witness in how cringe worthy it all is, but I'm not in the slightest bit worried.

And presumably White will be rubbish under a different manager anyway, as we all know his ability is purely down to Bielsa.

He won’t be sold. His loan was a part of his development plan. The thickies from Leeds don’t understand but that’s their lookout. Nice summary of the situation in an interview with David Weir (Albion Pathway Development Manager) on the club website:

I very much agree with you there.

Lets offer him a role and promise him that he can work with BW next season.

There is no reason to believe it is one or the other. I think you are persuading yourself that is the case as are the leeds fans. I have no doubt we will have already identified attacking targets and will be keeping Ben White.

Very unlikely £45m keeps them up. They'd have to spend very well

They'll be banking on not disturbing a well-knit unit, with Bielsa being the x factor. Will be interesting to see how his small squad approach works in the Prem. Leeds fans will assume that fewer games, means it will be less exhausting.

If that £45m is true, then it feels about right, if you don't want to start going into debt / getting investment from the owners. A typical Prem year is £100m minimum. But we believe the new teams will be looking at about £30m less, so that's £70m. They'll probably have improved a few player's contracts now they are in the prem. So wages plus transfers and they are about there.

£45m budget
£15m Costa
£5m Meslia

~£25m remaining?

If those are all correct, then they haven't really got much room to work with on the White deal. And let's not forget they are in a legal battle about whether they actually have to honour the £20m Augustin deal with RB Leipzig.

I think so too but a significant fee for an outgoing player would allow us to realign our budget.

The elusive 20 goal a season striker at this level is ground we've never broken before. We've also never sold a prospect with this sort of value and doing so would allow us to push the envelope in an area of the pitch where we need it more.

We need to be looking far beyond the 20m even 40m bracket for a goal scorer with as much future potential as the likes of Ben. That's where we need to invest, and reinvesting a fee for one of our many CBs could allow us to do this.
