Bellamy's not the nicest man in the world, and I doubt he actually means anything by this other than racking up a nice little PR coup for himself.

Yes, the Sun, is known for its lies, but there's rarely smoke without a fire, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if their allegation was (in part, at least) true.

£650,000 for a bit of good "PR", setting up a whole football league structure as well as donating the money hmmm obviously just doing that for a bit of good "PR" :shootself

Im sure if he wanted that he would give a car to a trainee or donate a weeks wages to cancer research that would suit for a good bit of "PR".

Christ, he's even admitted he's doing it for the PR :shootself

"This trip is to show my face and to show how serious I am," he told reporters.

Crikey - you footie journos are jaded!!!!
Maybe he can afford it, but....

Instead of buying a diamond encrusted watch (only 3 made in world) worth £400k he's setting up a youth league and a SCHOOL in a country most people can't point out on a map.
He's not bought a Bentley which he'll write off in a few weeks and not be bothered about, he's actually doing something that might give hope and purpose to 1000's of kids for years and years to come.
I'm glad I'm not famous, you just can't win?!?!

Mrs Bellamy,

It's quite obvious he's only done it for PR and he himself admits that.

its because he already has the diamond encrusted watch and the bentley. i imagine you could "win" if famous, as long as you are not a complete c.unt who assaults his team mates with a golf club and falls out with every club you ever play for. he just simply does this now because people have forgotten who he is. do you honestly think he gives two shits about those kids?

I don't think the PR angle should take anything away from what he has done. There are much safer places than Sierra Leone to visit to boost his PR.

If anything, perhaps he wants to prove he has another side to him AND help out war victims. If only more footballers would spend their easy earned cash on such valuable projects then footballers as a whole might be viewed in a different light. The truth is, many can't be arsed and are quite happy to fritter away a small proportion of their earnings in Cannes or Ayia Napa etc.

I salute him.

No, you're right. At least he is doing some good with his cash. I'm just a little sceptical of motives, sometimes. After all, he does need to overhaul his bad rep.

In my mag, it would be a positive story, obviously. This is just my NSC head talking, here :)

If those comments were coming from anyone else they would be getting SLATED as a DISGRACE.

Amputees and victims of genocide are hardly a laughing matter...

Most do-gooders on here would go mental but it really FUCKS me off how they BUM Race cos her Fella is Mr Bummers. Race is actually a good laugh on NSP etc and it's not her fault but so many little arse lickers on here LOVE her and wouldn't dare say anything against her.

I like Richie for being DIFFERENT

I do also LIKE Mrs Bummers - she's a good laugh

"Cough"

West Ham striker Craig Bellamy allegedly attacked a charity worker while in Sierra Leone to promote his football foundation.
...

Mr Bellamy, 28, is said to have flown into a rage after losing money at a casino during an all-day drinking session and lashed out at the charity worker.

are charity workers above everyone else? apart from the report saying it didnt happen, if something did happen maybe he was well within his rights? please bear in mind what some charity workers have been accused of lately.

as for the PR... i dont get it, so f***ing what? he doesnt have to do it, his career doesnt depend on what people think of him.
