Beers from Eastern Europe

Whilst in Belgrade a few year's back found a couple of good brew's Lav which was a lager and Zoffmann which was a dark beer.

Dreher is indeed nice, but when in Hungary, steer clear of their national "liquer", Unicum. It comes in a round bottle and can only be drunk ice cold (ie cold enough to take away most of the taste).

When I was in Budapest I ended up drinking with a load of Dutch metalheads I bumped into in a bar. We were doing a shot of Unicum with each round, my head the next morning was the worst it'd been in a long time.

Unicum rules!

I teach a lot of Russians here and once I was half jokingly telling a 6th form class that I didn't believe Russia made ANY beers and one of the lads responded by bringing me in 12 bottles of Baltika 7, brewed in St Petersburg.

Very nice it was too!

I would have, but that would far less believable than the beer one. Most of the whores in Cyprus are Russian or Ukranian.

I remember a Liverpool fan saying to me there was a beer called Svyturys when he went over to Lithuania for a Champions League qualifier and it was really good. Wasn't much else there with the exports.

Lech was smoother but Tyskie has more taste. I may have to do further research though, not that I like beer of course but someone has to do this vital work for the good of humanity.

Just trying Okocim, first can tasted smooth, refreshing and incredibly light for a beer that is 7% !!!!
Probably my favourite so far !
Anybody else sampled this one ?

Really? Unicum is liquid throat cancer and should be avoided at all costs!

Picked up a bottle of this in Tesco today and it is well worth the drinking.

Local off-licence is mostly wines & spirits and the bulk of their bottled beer is Eastern European. Quite fond of a Tyskie, occasionally Lech or Starpromen.

Tyskie was briefly on tap in my local during the peak of Polish workers here but I actually prefer it bottled.

Would be good if we could get Staropramen Unfiltered (or any unfiltered lager) here, its amazing! Drunk loads of it in Prague recently, £1.20 a pint (ok, 500ml) !

However don't rate the normal Staropramen lager though.

As I mentioned above, tried this for the first time on Friday, have to say I can't get enough of it !!

It's 7% but so smooth and moorish.

Definitely recommend !!!
