Maybe I’m wrong. Initially that was stated, but the FA ran a Q&A with reps from Qatar in October and they did say this;

Supreme Committee: Alcohol will be available in designated areas such as hotels and fan zones, also within the stadiums. Stadium availability will be 3 hours prior to the match for all games and 1 hour post-match. Availability at fan zones will be from 6:30pm until 1am. Hotel’s alcohol servings will beavailable under their own discretion at the individual hotel’s closing times.

So maybe I’m wrong

Do speak up for them though, by all means. I'm sure you consider the Qatar ruling state quite charming. Thats the entire point of sportswashing, and it clearly works on some people.

The UK government are firmly in bed with the Saudi's as well, who are in the process of bombing the f*** out of Yemen. There are lots and lots of dirty little fingers in some very sticky pies. Our government won't "go after" any of them - I'd have thought that goes without saying. Once the right palms had been greased, they soon waved through the sale of NUFC as well.

Not much anyone can do except look on with revulsion.

The original plan was to sell alcohol in the grounds for three hours prior to the game, then for one hour afterwards - specifically to honour agreements with Budweiser.

The Qatari government agreed to this in order to win the World Cup bid (that, and the bribes) then have reneged at the last minute, as they always intended to do.

So no, there were never going to drinks at seats, and the situation was going to be almost identical to that of the PL/The Amex.

Apologies if this fixtures. Just seen in sky news that beer has now been banned from all stadiums at the World Cup except for hospitality.

The Grauniad reporting tonight that paid " Official Supporters" have had their cash allowance cut, security guards are on the equivalent of 35p an hour and construction of at least one " Fan Zone " is unfinished....oh, and no beer for ordinary fans....its going well !

Most of the stadiums were designed, managed and built by dozens of multinational companies including some involvement with a few UK based companies mainly around the design of the stadiums. I'm not aware of any UK based construction companies being directly involved in actually building the stadiums, they were all built by locally based contractors with several other worldwide companies involved. Why exactly would the UK government go after a UK company legitimately and legally going about its business? It may be questionable morally but certainly not illegal.

There’s quite a few ‘project management’ types from the architects & design companies that have been in Qatar for a long time according to LinkedIn. Surely they should be raising red flags overseeing projects with hundred / thousands of deaths otherwise what are they doing out there? One of said firms even has a blog around ‘ethics’ and their human rights commitments on the projects !

Well it's Qatar and them are the rules. If you don't like the rules fair enough, but blame FIFA for hosting the World Cup Finals there, not the country imposing them.
