If you don't think he should be recalled to the England squad watch the Real Madrid game on SS2. Hes the best player on the pitch.

It may be obvious, but the issue isn't a 'future' one, or a 'past one'. We NEED to qualify for the European Championships, and we need the best players NOW.

Beckham is one of those, regardless of what he may or may not be doing in two years time!

I have long believed that missing out on Euro or World qualification whilst we build a decent side is acceptable. France is the benchmark. they did and won both the WC and the Euros in succession.

I've just done that... he lost the ball in midfield, went missing for 5 minutes, and then took a greedy shot when Van Nistel thing was better placed, and finally overhit a cross, as usual, looking for the killer ball.

And cap it off with a wasted free kick.

He's RIGHT! As soon as Sir Alec Guinness did a Hollywood film, he became a worthless actor. (replace with Anthony Hopkins, Lawrence Olivier, Charlie Chaplin, John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole).

a) Beckham is still in Europe, playing for Real Madrid.
b) Playing in the USA doesn't mean a player is instantly rubbish.
c) The USA have been known to beat England, as have other rubbish non-footballing countries like Australia, and we end up picking up their players for our Premier League. BHA was one of the teams to benefit from an 'American clown' goalkeeper - even before they actually had a reasonable league set-up!

And he'll wave his magic wand and everything will be ok. Super.

Another McClaren fan, who agrees with the wise man's dropping of Beckham (because he lives it up with his Spicegal missus and dandy hairdos. Instantly useless at football, despite several times that he saved England from total defeat, elimination and obscurity and is the most World-famous England player, ever)

Why not, he can take the blame when we don't qualify.

As with most decisions in football - and life, come to that - that are taken for the wrong reasons, this one has come back to haunt McClaren.

If Beckham had been dropped from the squad because he was no longer good enough to be in it, or there were a queue of better alternatives, no one would have argued. But that was patently not the case from the outset.

It was a purely PR-based decision from a weak man and manager, designed solely to boost his own 'authority' and distance himself from Sven. Beckham was just caught in the crossfire.

Results and performances have merely confirmed what a poor decision this was. Beckham, with a wealth of high-class displays for England, deserved much, much better.

He was a true patriot on a sports field and ran his guts out all match, every match – as well as providing technical expertise which has since disappeared.

Real Madrid have been big enough to admit they were wrong, and might yet get a title for their decision. McClaren might find for his part that Beckham can help him get to the Euros.
