What Bozza said - it's a load crap but anyway, he'll probably pick him once they start losing again. Like, erm, Maclaren...

According to Sky sports news, Beckham has been left out of the squad, based purely do to lack of match fitness.

Glad to see we have a manager who picks players on fitness and form rather than name, club he plays for or past glories
a "has been" end of ,should stick to doing what his mrs tells him to do

I'm with Capello, play those that have been playing well in the Prem and make Beckham re-earn his place. After all it is a fresh new start so why go backwards just to appease the Record Books (100th Cap), sure he can play next time if he proves his fitness and consistently good performances.

Ditto. As for sentiment I lost any I had seeing him on the beach in Brasil which was pretty stupid and may have been the 'straw' that cost him a cap.

Well done the Manager and now it's up to the players to show he made the right decision.

Poor decision IMHO as he deserves this

there is still time for his 100th cap, Capello rates him, especially after his reaction to being dropped at Real madrid, only to come back and prove him wrong. The American league doesn't start until march, when Becklham has played a few games then there is no reason for his future inclusion.

He has been left out purely on match fitness, and Capello said it would be unfair on the other members on the squad

Whilst I am dissapointed, he does deserve his 100th cap, he's been a tremendous ambassador for England, he made his own grave by going to play in the States.

I am surprised.

Beckham deserves his 100th cap and by giving it to him it would have taken a lot of the media pressure off Capello by making EVERY article about Beckham not the team selection etc.

Hopefully this means he wouldn't make the same mistakes as Sven and McClown and pick unfit players like Rooney, Owen and Beckham and rely on them in major tournaments. - good management in my opinion

wouldnt the player you take off also benefit from playing out the match, or the alternative sub to Beckham getting a run out, especially if it gave him more valuable experience for the future, and the player you leave out of the squad to accommodate Beckham in the first place

Maybe. But I think such negative impact is minimal, if there at all.

Jesus, if not 15 minutes, make it 2.

As I say - I believe sentiment is a huge part of football and Beckham deserves a 100th cap and a chance to say 'goodbye' to Wembley and England fans. By doing it in this friendly it would get it all out the way and will bring an end to the whole "Beckham 100th cap" thing as early as possible.

I dont get why people think he rightly deserves getting 100 Caps, yeah he's been great for the Country but we're talking about the future of England Internationals and the blatant FACT that its a fresh start and a move forward for the team.
Its not as if its a Cricket match and you delay the Declare so Beckham can get to 100 runs, its about match fitness....the FACT he has'nt got any, it does'nt mean thats the end....he just has to prove his worth and he will get recalled next time.
Capello has made the correct move IMO, good start...now lets see who he's picked!

Why does Beckham as some of you say 'deserve' a hundred caps. As I see it.

(1) He is training on a beach in Brazil and hasn't played a competive game since we lost to Croatia.
(2) Under his captaincy we won precisely f*** all. His contribution in Euro 2004 was to walk up and down the wing injured, miss 2 key penalties (france & Portugal) including one where he almost slipped on his arse. He didn't inspire much better in 2006.
(3) Hasn't had a great game for England since that Greece game. In 2001.

As we also know Beckham plays his best football when he has a point to prove. Capello, I think, has got this one spot on. Play him if he does show form and fitness.

Hell, why not bring Lineker back so he can break the England goals record, surely they could bring him on if we get a penalty, and continue doing this til he breaks the record. What about recalling Gazza for his flair in his day.

No-one deserves to be picked to play for their country based purely on stats like appearences, they should be chosen on what they are doing on the pitch

It's symbolic. Sentimental. Emotional. All the things that make football great for all of us. It's not a clinical game and there are very few black and whites.

I really don't believe there is a player who has displayed more pride in wearing the white shirt and given so much effort in the white shirt over the past 10 years or so than Beckham.

And for that I'd give him 15 minutes or 15 seconds at the end of a friendly.

I think he deserves ithe 100th cap at the end of the day.
He carried us through the last World Cup campaign as far as we got, and sparked a fightback against Croatia when he came on

I cannot stand his wife or his public life, but what he's done for the game, he deserves to break the barrier of 100 games for his country

After all this is a FRIENDLY against a SHIT team, so what wrong if he gets a run out for 15 minutes.

Let him get the cap, he goes out in glory, we dont have to pick him again, everyone is happy

Good decision by Capello. Friendlies are pretty contentious issues anyway with players being 'injured' and then playing for their clubs a few days later. I think it is important to let the players know that they will he picked on current circumstances and that they are not guaranteed a starting berth. He is showing them who is boss and rightly so.

He must have realised that his international career would be in jeopardy if he flitted off to the States, but the lure of Hollywood and £millions proved to be too much. I have no sympathy. By all means, get regular football, train hard and fight his way back into the England team, but lets not make a mockery of the team (although presumably too late).

I gather you meant, then there is no reason for his future exclusion.
Apart from that I agree with your sentiment and would hope that Capello also goes by lack of form as well as lack of fitness, in which case there is no way he should have Gerrard in the squad. He's done nothing for England in the last 2 years and look at how Liverpool are struggling.

Exactly.

Whereas not picking him means this is going to rumble on and on now, overshadowing nearly everything else.
