According to Sky sports news, Beckham has been left out of the squad, based purely do to lack of match fitness.

Glad to see we have a manager who picks players on fitness and form rather than name, club he plays for or past glories

To be fair the papers this morning were all saying he wasn't going to be in.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

The game is a sell out, tickets are like gold dust, I am sure many people bought tickets on the basis it would have been Beckhams 100th game.

What a load of bollocks.

Like it or not, sentiment has a huge part to play in football. Beckham has been a tremendous servant to English football. At the very least, he should have been a sub and brought on, with 15 minutes to go to get an ovation from a full Wembley.

I'm with Capello, play those that have been playing well in the Prem and make Beckham re-earn his place. After all it is a fresh new start so why go backwards just to appease the Record Books (100th Cap), sure he can play next time if he proves his fitness and consistently good performances.

Gold dust, a friendly with Switzerland? Come on, you work for the FA don't you, come clean.
As for Beckham, if it is a fitness issue then it is good management. Plenty of time for the 100th cap.

So which future England regular do you drop then, just for the sake of giving someone a game.
So should Mayo be playing for us, not based on his current form and whether or not there are better choices ahead of him at the moment, but purely for sentimental reasons so he reaches 400 games?

If he is good enough he will play at a later stage anyway, and wouldn't it be better for him to start and play most of or all the 90 minutes when he can do himself justice in his performance.

I agree, it also sends out a good message to the other players that they have to earn their place through form and fitness and that they then can't take selection for granted based on previous England games, etc

How soon is now?
That's gotta be the end of his England career again then.... He'll never prove himself to Capello when he's stuck out in the US playing 3rd rate games to empty stadiums. Its a shame, he has been a good servant to England and probably on ability deserves to be there, but because he assumed he was coming to the end of his career he took the money option, when in reality he could have taken the football option and had another year or two at the top level..

Why would you need to drop anyone to give someone 15 minutes at the end of the game?

wouldnt the player you take off also benefit from playing out the match, or the alternative sub to Beckham getting a run out, especially if it gave him more valuable experience for the future, and the player you leave out of the squad to accommodate Beckham in the first place

.

Who are these future England regulars?
There's no-one who springs to mind as an outstanding right-winger, so i'd play the bloke who's actually played well for England recently and can conjure up a goal
