Bearing in mind England's performance in the last WC

and with the Premiershite already killing off the England team - as evidenced in the last World Cup (and I can't see this getting any better unless there is a major rethink of the balance between club and country), will we be that bothered that the World Cup is going to the palm greasers in Russia and Qatar in 8 and 12 years time?

Possibly going out on a limb here, but on a purely personal level, I'm really not that bothered we didn't get it. Born in '65 I was obviously way to young to remember anything about the '66 World Cup, so growing up, every World Cup has been overseas, sometimes in far flung places of the World. To me, that actually adds something to the World Cup itself, I can't really explain what, but for me it does. If it were held here, apart from maybe trying to get to watch an England game, if Germany v Ireland for instance was played in London, it would just be like any other game for me and I wouldn't be that bothered about going.

A bit like Euro 96 really. Yeah it was nice it was here, but it made zero difference to me on a personal level.

Think we are all getting bored every four years of hearing "We have an excellent chance to win this one", only for our hopes to be brought down in flames by the overpaid egotistical players of the premiership talent being found out when they are no longer supported by the likes of Ronaldo, Torres, Essien, Petre Cech etc etc and they have to then perform and diplay their supposed talent.

Gutted we didnt get it, but to me peronally, no major loss

Interesting how so many people link hosting the tournament with the England team. This should be two different issues, and yet ...

... one thing about the 2018 bid I was sceptical about was the "we love football - all the stadia will be full" line.

This didn't happen at Euro96, did it? There were plenty of empty seats at the non-England games, and not only due to ticketing shambles.

Tell me I'm wrong, someone - and that if we hosted a tourney now, it would be different.
