The thing that always put me off about this festival was the fact that it looked really f***ing WANKY. Pimms Bus, local Cocktails bars setting up and charging through the nose, no booze at all allowed this year (realise that was out of their hands) and no doubt some really expensive local food stalls. Allow all that shit.

They obviously thought they could sell tickets to Brighton residents only and almost sell out, which they might have been able to do if the students were around (maybe having it in June would have been advisable).

Just not thought out properly.

And you can't get away from the line up being pretty weak, though the Hospitality night would have gone off big time and Derrick May would have been good.

I dont think Beachdown is attractive to students. The line-up and the fancy food and drink stuff inside make me believe this. It brings me back to my points about the lack of focus as to their target punter/audience.

Then did they REALLY think they could sell it to the early 30's crowd? Really?

This is my question...who was their target audience? ]

Just heard a rumour that all overseas acts that they were supposed to be playing had their travel expenses pulled and were cancelled a few weeks back.

Nice one!

Unfortunately despite rave reviews last year in the press the fact was that it wasn't all that good and the people who paid last time probably won't have bothered again and so they had to attract a new crowd with a very mediocre line-up to entice them.

The site was too spread out, it's bloody windy up there, the licensing left people wandering about bored gone midnight with nothign to do. I had some mates who just got a taxi back into Brighton and went clubbing instead.

Combined with a less than exotic summer I'm not surprised people weren't flocking to go.

I do think it's a shame as I was so geared up for it last year but it just didn't work out too well.

ALSO the number of fence jumpers probably left plenty of people this year deciding not to bother with tickets at all seeing as the perimiter is so hard to police at such a huge site. I know I was annoyed having forked out for my ticket only to find other people popping in and out as they pleased without tickets because it really was that simple to do.

The festival calendar is far too congested these days anyway.

Nice one!

If that's true then the recently offered 'day tickets' was a bit of a ****ish act by the organizers to put it mildly!

It is a bit sus that the new edition of free mag Latest Homes/Latest 7 out yesterday and usually containing all the music/event happenings locally has absolutely no mention of Beachdown in it.....hmm....

I have just been to the Levellers Beautiful Days festival. £100 for 3 days including camping. 10,000 tickets available and for the 7th year running sold out.

Its based near Otter St Mary (Devon) and all beer provided was from the local brewery and sold at pub prices hence it was £2.60 for a pint of the festival beer, going up to £3 for other drinks - lager/cider etc.

The food stalls all reasonably priced - £5/£6 for main meals and you got decent food and large portions. There are no big corporate companies allowed so lots of small independant stalls, the variety was superb. They also had a large "shop" run by the local village shop.

There were 4 different stages, plus lots of cafes, bars, other tents. Main stage finsihed at midnight and other tents at 3am.

Brilliantly organised, toilets kept clean, excellent (but limited) shower facilities and the stewarding was spot on.

All in all my favourite festival compared to V, Reading, Guilfest & Glastonbury.

Not much help for those going to Beachdown, but IMHO the beautiful days team now how to put on a festival!

I just think the line up was too diverse, and the tickets too expensive. There were a couple of interesting people but not enough to pay the huge ticket price, even though I'd've normally been really interested. Not looking good for refunds, as has been pointed out...
