If any item ever said ‘out of touch middle class, middle age dullard’ it would be a beach hut. Biggest rip-offs going.

This is bound to upset knocky1 but my son (age 14, unfortunately inherited my sarcasm) referred to them as "five figure sheds" the other day. Proud moment.

I wonder what she does with the piss from the portable loo?

I believe that the Government has first dibs on that!

I've never had a beach hut and have no desire to have one either, but I think there is something quite lovely and iconic about them. I know it is stupid money, but it seems to focus people on keeping things looking nice.

The beach barbecue/picnic crowd are something else. Scoop up lots of over packaged shit from Tesco Express, shove the remains in a carrier bag and leave it by the over flowing bin. This is what it looks like the next day, once the foxes and seagulls have had a go at it. You lazy selfish *****!!. Same goes for the takeaway with a view crowd sitting eating in their cars.

I don't believe anyone has tried to park a Beach Hut in Lidl's car park on a Sunday morning either

Would be quite the spoof if somebody actually did that though eh, with a cheaply constructed beach hut like structure, with suitably painted door. Viralness awaits for anyone that can Make It Happen!

:lolol::lolol:

My Mum used her pension from working on the tills at Waitrose to buy one on retirement. The lads who sold it to her had done a good job bodging up a delapidated shed to get her to fork out £1,600. I spent the next 2 years being her slave on repairs and painting. When on a long trip in Mexico she emailed and asked when I was returning. I felt touched she cared until I read the bit saying the council wanted the beach hut painted asap.

For being odd job man it was left to me in her Will and is now worth, sorry valued, £30,000. You can tell the boy that as a true Champagne socialist I also bought my council flat in the Elephant & Castle for £9,400 and made about £250,000.

Having no principles beats working.

Amen to that!

My sister was interviewed for that article last week. The night before my nephew had had a boozy 21st Birthday there with his mates. She was cleaning up. Cllr Robert Nemeth was with the Guardian journalist and they interviewed her and took some photos.

Interestingly there is nothing about her or my Beach Hut in the article. I'm sure it's because she is much more of an oik than me and was rather knocky at the time as on cleaning duties.

Failing to see how you could possibly class a beach hut as a "rip-off".
No one is forcing you into a corner to buy one.
And if you did you'd of been well rewarded with your investment.
My sister bought one about 5 years ago, had a fantastic summer in it, got some income by renting it out some days on Airbnb, then sold it on for 30% more than the price she'd paid for it just 15 months earlier.
Oh, and I almost forgot, she also got to meet 'knocky 1'.

I really don't think you comprehend the definition of what it means to be "ripped-off".

Your sister spent more than most people can afford to spend on their car on a garden shed so she doesn’t have to carry her deckchairs all the way from the car to the beach.

That fact that someone was stupid enough and out of touch enough to spend even more on it doesn’t change that.

People spend more than that on a wristwatch which doesn't even tell the time as well as a £15 Casio (or £50 phone)...
