We agree on his finishing being terrible. A striker is there primarily to strike, to finish. Maupay's never likely to be Harry Kane in terms of assists.

I think the jury's out on whether he's good enough in the Premier League. Which other team would he force his way into on current form?

I didn't think much of his all-round play for Brighton. He did set up one Everton attack in the 42nd minute when he passed backwards despite being deep in Everton's half.

But yes, it's always going to be a game of opinions. Just need a nuanced view between the miserablism of Potter-outs and the Kool Aid drinkers who can see no wrong.

Don’t majorly disagree. But I think he’s done alright given the step up. Maybe I’d have him in our squad but that elusive striker could take his place in the team in the main.

Pleased.

Just 2 more points needed to get to this season's magic 35 and survival.

Maupay should have scored but we pressed on 2nd half and Wellbeck and co got into some great posistions and the delivery was not bad either but Everton managed to just about clear or block so that was unlucky for us, we were not that bad in the final third, the longer the game went on neither team wanted to lose though, so quite happy with the point.

We didn’t miss any sitters. But on the other hand didn’t create any sitters. On the other hand we created far more than them. I’m running out of hands but we’re much better than our position in the table - I don’t buy this table doesn’t lie lark. We’re the one out of place team - look at GD and XG tables.

Heeeeeeees Brazilian - he only cost £50 million...
Let’s go

Free ish
Sanchez
Dunk
White
Welbs
Lallana

Gross 3 ish?
Biss 15 ish
Tross 18 ish
Maupay 20 ish
Velts 1
Moder 3?

£60 mil ish - so yeh our team and him not far off!
Webster £20,
Jahanbakhsh £13M
Moder £9.5M
Mac Allister £10M
Izquierdo £13.5M
Propper £10M
Zeqiri £3.5M
Burn £4M

Not a big money squad in terms of the PL, and no, we certainly haven't paid £50M for a player. But we have still spent some pretty hefty money - anyway, I was basically just debunking your claim that Richarlison cost more than our entire team, which was obviously a bit bollocks.

Don’t think I’ve seen this before, they are doing technical analysis of a game 22 years ago cos tonight’s was so shit

I'm sure he would. We've been short of a striker for 3-4 years and counting.

The concern is that aside from a fully-fit Welbeck, Maupay's probably the best we've got now.

As someone commented on the match thread, if only we had the same quality up front as we do behind them.

The transfer window can't come soon enough as much to move on the surplus as to bring in the new.

Thought AJ was 17 mill, did we sue to get some back

I’m happy with the point, based on what feels (I know reality may be different) like thus season Iwobi would have scored and plucky Brighton would have lost 1-0. Everton weren’t very good but didn’t allow us many clear cut chances and this is a team that still had with Hamez and Richarlison, both I expect are on 6 figure salaries

When you consider that Everton REALLY needed to win that game, we played pretty well to restrict them to virtually nothing. Just that Iwobi shot in the 91st minute! I know they had injuries, but we were very clearly the better side. Good point, and now Fulham need to get two wins and two draws from six (or West Brom need 4 wins out of 7). Not particularly likely - and that's assuming we get NOTHING from our last seven.

Yes, after looking at t'internet I believe you are right - I did look up the others but I thought I knew Ali's price without looking it up. I was wrong.

Still, an even bigger waste of money than I thought!

Yep, happy with a point and as others have stated kudos to Everton for parking the bus and doing it well.

My ONLY gripe today is that someone on the coaching staff has to force Maupay to do two hours of left foot only finishing a week. He literally won’t do anything other than stand on the bloody thing when he’s in front of goal and it’s costing us. It’s either that or saw the bloody right one off and force him to use his left.

Some of the positions he gets himself into are Greaves-esque but to then not get the ****ing thing on target because you rely so heavily on one foot is ludicrous. Gah.

We've played a lot better and lost. Both teams well below par. Fair result and a decent point.

Id have taken a point before the game as every point is vital at this age of the season. Up to 15th too, which ain't bad. I think we need another three to be safe. We may have to grind them out.

That point now means 3 points from the next 2 will be enough to keep us up. Chelsea is a free hit but we can travel to Sheff Utd knowing a win will mean another season in the top flight.

Thought Everton were there for the taking and if not for poor finishing again, we could have won that.

Our xG tonight was 1.27. As we had 23 shots, that means that on average, our shots had a 0.05 xG. We did not look like scoring. This is why you can't read too much into xG.

Very happy with the point though.

Excellent OP , watching the game especially second half , it looked like we were playing against OUR defence , they had the same put your body in the way attitude . Both sides had a chance to take the points , but be honest only one deserved them , 1pt feels like we were robbed .

As an aside , there should be a 64ft tall arms crossed legs astride statue of Lewis Dunk across the entrance to The Amex , like the colossus of Rhodes .........Too much i think not

Yep pleased with that. We didnt score, but it was difficult to create many clear chances with Everton having so many defensive players on the pitch. Im just happy we didnt give some sloppy goal away with a misplaced pass. Another point on the road to safety, and a place up the table. Even with their injuries they had Sigurdsson & Digne feeding chances to Richarlison & Rodriguez. That's quite a combination to keep quiet like we did.
