One thing is for sure: the crowd at lakeside are much better. Proper darts fans who are there to watch the game. The PDC events unfortunately attract a football crowd mentality & people who are just there to get as pissed as possible, not watch much of the darts & not respect the players.

Wasn't he sacked for making racist and homophobic comments?

An odious not so little man, he actually said one of the offending jokes years before at the Lakeside just as I was about to interview him backstage, unfortunately/thankfully my machine wasn't switched on.

As a regular visitor with the Beeb he was one of the things you didn't look forward to, although in the eyes Olly Croft and the BDO he could do no wrong.

Any tiny shred of respect I might have had for him went when he accused RVB of taking performance enchancing drugs just after he'd left the BDO for the PDC.

Looking forward to the Count today though.

Good to see the current champion Scott Mitchell in difficulty at the moment 2-1 down . Adams at 5-1 to win the tournament got to be worth a punt ?

Spoke too soon , Mitchell won :-(

That was a fantastic match. Scotty 'dog' Mitchell would do well on the PDC. If he wins it again this year he'll have a serious think of taking on the best.

I love the BDO. No big ego's and a wide open tornament. Wesley 'sparky' Harms could have a good run.

I ruddy love the BDO.

No 'Stand up if you love the darts' or goons in the crowd doing the Kolo/Yaya Toure song for the seven hundredth time. Just darts, poor darts adimittedly, but just darts.

Same here, but its a shame that the quality of darts is so poor. Its the second division of darts. All the best players are on sky.

The Sajwani v Hewson match was watchable because it was awful , lots of scores in the 40's and plenty of 24 dart legs. Also why do the BDO players always seem to spend ages frowning at the camera after they throw their darts.

Genuinely watch this knowing I could give them a game. Love it. It's 'Indoor League' on a big stage.

You a bit handy with the darts? I've been playing for about 14 months, I generally average around the low to mid 40s over 10 legs or so. Watching the PDC feels unattainable, but watching the BDO is far more of an incentive!

Used to be....just throw a few at home these days, wouldn't take a lot of practice to get back to a half decent standard. Haven't really got the time but love it. When I play junior he keeps score on an app on his phone, I seem to average about 70

Off to The Lakeside on Friday night for some quarter final action. Always a good night assured but I'm thinking I might need to upgrade to the Ally Pally next year. I know all of the "banter" between the stands and the tables gets a bit tiresome but the standard of darts this year has been astonishing. What I wouldn't give to be in the hall when a 9 darter is landed. Anderson raised the roof last night.

The BDO feels like an old friend though. Always happy to drop in on it.

Jesus, that's a better average than all the county players I know. One of them even made it to a TV tournament.

Wouldn't happen under any pressure though.....like in a real game.....did ok in local leagues when I first moved to Sussex but not played anything competitive for about 15 years. Played a bit at county standard for a while in Devon (30 years ago)

I don't get why people complain about the standard of bdo. Most of these guys are amateurs while the PDC is pro and loads more money. It is obviously a higher standard. That said would the PDC be anything without young players going up through BDO tournaments?

It is almost like watching the walker cup and saying "these guys are crap compared to those you see in the Ryder cup"

A couple of absolute ripsnorters tonight...

'Yozza' Jamie Hughes v 'The Boss' Ross Mongomery
'The Prince of Wales' Martin Phillips v 'The Count' Ted Hankey.

Also looking forward to seeing the Assassin Martin Atkins and John Boy Walton start their campaigns this afternoon.
