You might want to go the the CPRE site and tell them what they seem to be missing. http://www.cpre.org.uk/index.htm

They've had this from me, but the more the merrier:

"I have read with interest your press release on the Deputy Prime Minister's decision to allow the building of a community stadium for Brighton at Falmer. Your Head of Planning, Henry Oliver, says that the decision "will do lasting damage to one of our finest landscapes." If this is Henry's view, then either he has travelled little, or he's never been to Falmer - or both. This is a site bounded by a dual carriageway, a railway line and the frankly ugly buildings of Brighton and Sussex Universities. To describe it as one of our finest landscapes is pure hyperbole.

You will be aware that John Prescott made his decision in the light of extensive proceedings at public enquiries and with the overwhelming support of the people of Brighton and Hove and the rest of Sussex. Lewes Council's decision, far from being one to applaud, is a scandalous waste of public money reached by a process which made a mockery of democratic debate.

The CPRE's purpose is to campaign for the countryside to "be protected and enhanced for the benefit of everyone." Supporting Lewes Council's misguided action in this way flies in the face of that."

Absolutely superb reply! :clap2: Maybe we should send them the site picture too, and suggest it goes straight on all those 'Visit Britain' holiday brochures.

Sorry, Gwylan, but to me this looks like a straightforward cut and paste job from a CPRE press release. Or the entire release, with one sentence added by the reporter.

The BBC doesn't have an obligation to reproduce every press release received.

Balanced reporting would have included a picture of the site and its surroundings. Plus a quote from the Albion.

That's not really the way that news websites work. What happens these days is that organisations would put the links to the previously published relevant stories and links to the websites of the organisations that have a connection to the story (such as the club's). The BBC did this.

I doubt very much whether the poor sap writing the story would have time to phone up anyone - it would have been five or ten minutes to put the story up and on to the next one. The days when journalists had the time to write one or two stories a day and take a four-hour lunch are long gone (which is why I'm up at 6.00 having a quick look at NSC before a long day).

The BBC doesn't have an obligation to print every release but, as I said above, the CPRE is pretty well-known and it would be strange decision not to - that would be seen as a bias.

Is that so you can write about the truth, such as it being Groundhog Day or where to go for a picnic with your mum?

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Just sent a letter to the Argus....

Return to the Swinging Sixties.

Now that the CPRE have jumped into Bed with the Lewes District Council and the Falmer Parish Council, I do hope that they have adequate protection should an adverse result occur. I hope that other people are not left to clear up the resulting mess.

Finally, point of information! When is the proposed site for the Stadium going to gain promotion as the eighth wonder of the world? I can just see this field up there, with the likes of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or the Statue of Zeus.

Your sincerely....
