Always one of the great sporting occasions of the entire year and plenty of good and bad and striving for equality to look back on. Begins in 15 minutes on BBC1.

Alec Scott guides us through the evening with support from Gary Linker.

The fact that Tyson Fury is nominated but not Mark Cavendish was all I needed to know to give this a miss

How Fury can be nominated for anything given his abhorrent views is beyond me.

Otherwise known, and rightly so, as the Emma Raducanu of the Year Award.

Looking forward to the BBC delving deep into their extensive archives of live sport coverage to bring us a moving montage of the World Conker Championships from Great Snoring, Northants.

While I agree to a certain extent, she's been a bit of a one hit wonder so far compared to somebody like Adam Peaty

Maybe, but her one hit is of the 'Everything I Do, I Do it For You' 16 weeks at Number One variety rather than The Jam with several straight in at Number One then falling rapidly.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Does anyone bother watching this tripe these days?

The BBC have so few sporting events to show, its become embarrassing.

Yep, for me that was the standout sporting performance of the year…by a large margin

It has to be Emma.

In an era when sport is dominated by money and money buys you trophies it was brilliant to see an unseeded girl go the distance and bring back our first women's grand slam trophy in 44 years.
