I think 'personality' seems to mislead a fair few people. It only means a person of prominence within the world of (Britain) sport as opposed to the funniest/nicest.

Indeed. I know exactly what the competition is about, they just have given it a misleading title...

But anyway, as it's not a 'true' meaningful award in my eyes it should be -

1) Calzaghe
2) Hatton
3) Hamilton (he will win it soon enough anyway)

But I would still give it to Hatton ALL DAY LONG (edited... sounds wrong but, you know what I mean...)

Should be Hatton (even though he lost last night, 43 wins and 4 world titles across two weight classes is not to be sniffed at) or Calzaghe (undefeated World Champion for a decade and beat his nearest contender for divisional supremacy comfortably this year) IMO, but will most likely be Hamilton.

A tough call between Hamilton and Calzaghe, both would be a worthy winner, I hope it's Calzaghe, but think it will be given to Hamilton for the best debut formula one season by any driver.

Gary Lineker, Sue Barker and . . . Adrian Chiles are presenting it. How Adrian Chiles is moving up in the world!

My Sports Personality of the Year would be the late, great Jane Tomlinson.

A woman who just didn't know the meaning of the words 'giving up' and a winner in every sense. The cash she raised was dwarfed only by the incalculable inspiration she provided to millions. And she had a personality that eclipsed all of the BBC's nominated sports men and woman put together.

Its a shame that the BBC didn't include her in the nominations - for me Jane Tomlinson fits the criteria perfectly and I would have liked to have seen her honoured.

The highlight will be the well deserved lifetime achievement award for Sir Bobby Robson

Indeed it will, a fine man of football
