Agreed. I'd be quite happy to pay a small fee to watch high quality BBC TV in my hotel room in some far flung corner of the world. Still considering the Slingbox as an option.
 


Is it absolutely to do with the fact that the rights to broadcast any BBC show abroad are sold seperately. Letting people have these things for free on the iPlayer would undermine that, and even if they charged for it it would overcomplicate any negotiations with foreign broadcasters.

The reason that they don't have a back-catalogue of stuff up there is presumably because you can buy these things on DVD or through iTunes; and they don't want to damage those revenue streams.

Not strictly speaking; it's because the BBC's charter won't let it put a back-catalogue of stuff up there. Give it four years :thumbsup:
