Indeed, that's why gates average 42,000. I just don't see why the media article picks on Bayern.

Go to Duisberg or Leverkusen and ask them how they do it - neither of them get particularly big gates. (20,000 ish)

Leverkusen and Duisburg are surrounded by some of the giants of German Football - Schalke, Dortmund, Cologne, Gladbach all within an hour's drive. Leverkusen have managed over the last few decades to build up their support to around 30,000 a match.

Duisburg are struggling to stay up in the 2nd Division so comparable with Sheff Wed or Wolves. Their gates are none too shabby.

We just have to face facts that German Clubs don't look at all their fans as cash cows - prices are varied for all types.

I agree. Everybody seems to be pulling in the same direction when it comes to football in Germany. For all the gushing praise for the English and Spanish leagues, there is so much wrong with the pair of them, especially Spain.

We could have had all of that, if it wasn't for the bloody yanks coming over here and interfering with our war.

Gate money is a relatively small percentage of total income for ALL Premier League teams now.

Agree, and all the more reason why hiking prices (because we can) is pretty obscene. The incremental increase is a tiny percentage of their revenue but for many fans it's a bloody big percentage of their disposable income (after running the house, kids etc)

The principles of supply and demand will always drive a commercial philosophy but football seems to have developed a real capability of exploiting the loyalty that exists in their "business" ... all pretty distasteful to me.

For all the gushing praise for the English ......leagues

Does this come from anywhere other than Sky and Peter Scudamore though?

I believe they do still have one, although they also have cash reserves upwards of 150 million. Yet they still charge away fans 60 quid a pop.

Why would the foreigners which invested in Arsenal want to do anything else than make a profit? This is what they're in it for. They're not supporters.

The way clubs will charge for kids to be mascots says it all.

Mr Hoeness makes a very good point. I am still bemused why the Albion have announced that if we go up, ticket prices will be more expensive than if we stay down. One would have thought that with the extra gazillions in premiership TV money that they wouldn't need to raise the prices as much as if we stayed down, but then football has always been a strange business.

Trust u to post 1000 times in a thread on Germans - You're English, get over it and try and be proud...

In all seriousness though, you can only take your hat off to the German's for the prices they charge. Puts into perspective those (wanting to look) pretty wealthy on here that claim £30 / £40 for a football match is 'fair enough'. It's not. End of.

The fact that the club makes a loss of £8million needs to be thought about. We can't rely on TB to dip into his pockets for cash in the coming seasons with the new rules about restricting clubs losses. Nobody wants us to be in a position where we are fined or maybe docked points! We need all the revenue we can get.

The fact that the club makes a loss of £8million needs to be thought about.

Everyone who has thought about it for more than 5 min has come to the same conclusion: the club is moving money around to avoid penalties under the fair play system due to be introduced next season. It's not an actual loss.

"We could charge more than £104. Let's say we charge £300. We'd get £2m more income but what is £2m to us? In a transfer discussion, you argue about that sum for five minutes. But the difference between £104 and £300 is huge for the fan. We do not think fans are like cows who you milk. Football has got to be for everybody. That's the biggest difference between us and England." - Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness

The German football league is run properly, the English league is run by morons

If we're in the Championship yes, but if we're in the division above we'll get £50m+ from Tv and the inevitable kicker from perimeter ads and sponsorship that will at least quadruple. The poxy arms race in salaries that sees really average footballers getting £45k a week (Bothroyd anyone!) can in no way be remedied by charging supporters higher and higher ticket prices for the ordinary punter.
