BRIGHTON and Hove Albion manager Mark McGhee has this morning been in negotiations with Leeds United over the possible transfer of former England midfielder David Batty.
Batty, who is out of contract at the end of this season, has already been released by Leeds manager Eddie Gray.
Batty, 35, is keen to extend his career for another couple of seasons and it believed he is close to agreeing personal terms with Brighton.

Incidentally, what is the situation with Batty at Leeds? Last I heard, he was out on his arse but that he was going to sit in the reserves and take the money.

Batty has been told by Eddie Gray that he is no longer part of his plans at the club, and no new contract will be offered at the end of the season. He has definitley played his last game for Leeds. Batty will be available on a Bosman now so it is likely that he will either be joining another club very soon, or announcing his retirment. You can't discount the possibility of him coming down here for a season or two, but I would imagine he will be staying up North.

You can keep your Zidane and Beckham, with Oatway and Batty the league will be our oyster...

Spoke to my mate who supports Leeds, apparently Batty has said he ios off to play non league footy for a mate of his anhd wants nothing more to do with the proffesional game.

He also said in his autobiography that he doesnt even like footy and would have given up years ago if it wasnt so well paid.
