tezz79: you're quite right, mostly, and I was being a bit of a dick in that post- although for clarity, I was talking about contemporary war-themed shooters, not games in general, which I'm a massive fan of. I was talking about the single-player campaigns and I know most people don't play them like that. It's just that, as a gamer for nearly 30 years, I find those particular games massively tiresome. I'm in a minority, sure, but it's a pretty large minority: MW3 and BF3 seem spectacularly pointless to me in a year which has given us Arkham City, Deus Ex Human Revolution, The Witcher 2, Skyrim, LA Noire and that's without even considering the great stuff that's come out of the indie scene this year. I'm not the biggest fan of first-person shooters, but I understand some people like to stick to one genre: I just think MW3 and BF3 are particularly uninspired examples of FPSes when there's stuff like Rage, Borderlands, Killzone 3 or Bulletstorm out there.

I guess I see it a bit like people who'll only read books by Andy McNab. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that as such, it's just a bit of a shame when there's so much better stuff out there. I realise I was hitting out at a straw man there and nobody in this thread actually expressed the opinion I was arguing against. Like I said, guess I was just being a bit of knob that day- apologies all round!

Na that's fair enough mate & now you've gone into detail
I actually agree with some of what you say, I refuse to play any cod games anymore (online or campaign) as it does seem to be the same old thing year in year out with very linear gameplay when it comes to the campaign mode in particular.
I know bf3 is apparently worse in single player which is the reason I have not even started the campaign.
I do think bf3 offers a whole lot more than your average fps (online) with pretty in depth strategical eliments, squad based play & vehicles ect & I'm really enjoying it at the moment.
I'm also loving skyrim although one of my sons seems to have took it into the depths of his bedroom so I'll have go on a quest of my own to get it back next time i fancy a session lol.

But no need for apologies mate, each to their own n all that.... That's what makes gaming great, there's something for everyone.

LA Noire was terrible. Repetitive, slow, reptitive, slow and reptitive.. Did I say it was reptitive?
Batman and Skyrim I agree with

MW3 I think is a very poor follow on to MW2, well the multiplayer is. Small maps, dominated by building and the worst spawn system ive ever seen in an fps. BF3 is a great follow on to BF2 and the depth of the multiplayer is great. I agree that both campaign modes are too short and as you said, not great.

But just like out beautiful game, its all about opinions.
