Looks like you're right. It looked like he'd be allowed to play while appealing against the ban but seems to have accepted it now. But if you've got a batting line-up of McCann, Teixeira, Jeter, Kelly Johnson, Beltran, Soriano, Suzuki and Ellsbury then runs shouldn't be a problem.

Unproven pitcher in Tanaka, unproven closer in Robertson, plenty of injury risks (Jeter, Roberts, Tex, Ellsbury) in the batting line-up - I think the Yanks finish behind both Boston and Tampa Bay.

A-Rod's suspended for the entire season, isn't he? I fully expect Jeter to break down at some point, and Ellsbury's bound to get injured too. Shame! My Red Sox won when they weren't supposed to last year, probably too much to hope for a repeat but the nucleus is still there. Can't wait to start listening to and watching games that matter, very relaxing.

I think the Red Sox will miss Jacoby Ellsbury a great deal, always a good solid performer and rather underrated - perhaps rather like Ashley Barnes in that respect.

Anyway, having moved to Texas, Red Sox machinations will seem rather academic and a long way away. What are the Houston Astros like? Nice ground, even if I'll be going from freezing my nuts off at Fenway Park because it's only just stopped snowing, to freezing in the air conditioning.

How many are participating in the fantasy Baseball this season?

I'm in. And my daughter is making her debut. She drafted Yadi Molina so she's happy. I was top of the standings after game one in Sydney.

I'm going over to watch a series this summer, but haven't decided which yet, Padres in July was favourite, but it is so expensive. So maybe check out the the ballpark village in St Louis instead, even if (whisper it) St Louis is such a dull town apart from the ballpark.

MLBTV is a must.

LET'S GO CARDINALS

Ya-di! Ya-di! Ya-di!

God I love that guy.....

It really isn't. But, yes, the "downtown" area is shit.

My picks: Yankees, Tigers, Athletics, Nationals, Cardinals, Dodgers. Wild cards Red Sox and Giants.

World Series: Yankees vs. Dodgers. Dodgers to win 4-3.

Best pitching rotation = Giants. They will push LA hard and at 33-1 for the World Series they look like a decent bet.

I would love to agree with you about the Giants' rotation, but I fear they will underperform again. Go Giants anyway!

Enjoying the early innings of the Dodgers Padres Opening Night match in San Diego. Padres have left 5 baserunners in the first 2 innings. Ouch!

You're in Houston? You poor bugger. Terrible sports teams (including the Astros), easy to get tickets though. The soccer team (to use the American term) used to be good. Having been there a few weeks ago there are several English 'pubs', including a Liverpool one that will be fun over the next few weeks. Unfortunately I forgot the name, but it's just outside the Galleria district. Climate's nice at least, althoug Texans are strange people.

I see Brian Wilson spectacularly blew the save, then lost the match for the Dodgers last night.

Minnesota Twins are firm favourites this year for the ALC wooden spoon.
96 losses last year. Worst ERA. Worst strikeout total. Sixth worse runs total (614).

Manager Ron Gardenhire: "I'm not saying we hit rock bottom last year, because you can always lose more."

Inspiring stuff Gardy, almost Oscar-like. :lolol:

At least the starting rotation has been freshened up with Nolasco arriving from the Dodgers (8-3 with a 3.52 ERA last year). He opens today at the White Sox....but they can always lose more.

As you are a NY Rangers fan Walt you should go for the Mets - as a Brighton fan you should support the underdog. On no account cross over to the dark side and become a Yankees fan

An avid fan of basketball and ice hockey I feel I should get into baseball.

Who should I follow though?
You definitely need to follow an East coast team.
You'll be able to watch more games that way.

Miami is a bust.
NY is NY.
Boston is Man Utd.
That leaves you the Washington Nat'nals.
The Man City of teams, not a lot of history but likely to win this season!!

Boston is Man Utd.

Rubbish. Think of the Red Sox as more along the lines of Everton or Spurs: a traditional old club rooted in its community and with an old ground too but with a tendency to underachieve.

The arrogant, money-dripping Yankees are without any doubt the Man Utd of baseball.

Oh come come, hiding behind your dilapidated shed of a ground.
You know who you are and what you're like.

The spanking Nat'nals is where it's at, front cover of SI, you're just jealous:-

FYI, I have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm just a huge fan of Tony Kornheiser on Washington980 radio.
I even pushed Barry Isbak, a man clearly blessed with saintly patience, to the limit.
Every time he tried to NSC coach me through a game, I ALWAYS picked the games where nothing, and I mean literally nothing happened!!
