I need your advice.

Going to LA and SF in June, how far in advance do I need to get tickets?

Which would be the better team to see?

Which day/night of the week gets the best atmosphere?

Any other useful info would be great.

Lets go METS ! Lets Go METS !

single game tickets go on sale on Monday - if your after tickets V the Phillies or the Yankees then act swiftly otherwise your only chance will be grossly inflated ones on StubHub

Only one team worth watching in the AL this year, and that's my Red Sox. Already had solid starting starting pitching and have added Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, and a slew of bullpen help. of course I would never have said this before 2004, but with a weakened Tampa and a Yankee team that has little pitching, we really should walk the AL East.

Not entirely sure about that. Rays (my team) are still pretty powerful although they seem to have brought in two pensioners and lost half their bullpen. Soriano has headed to the Yankees and he'll be superb. My money is on the Yankees. Sorry. Carl Crawford cannot singlehandedly hold up an ageing and weak batting line-up.

Nice trip by the sounds of it.

SF have always had a great location (see the old Candlestick Park/new at&t stadium), and probably has more of an atmosphere due to the fact they are the champions so expect a busier crowd than normal.
Not sure of ticket prices.

The Dodgers are based just outside of Downtown LA, which itself is not that appealing, but their stadium is big at 56,000 seats and is quite interesting when you are there. The Dodgers have a huge following and each game has a good atmosphere and good views, especially at a night game.
Ticket prices vary, check out this link:
Los Angeles Dodgers Tickets | dodgers.com: Tickets

Either way, each place has history as a team, and any day or night games there are great, why not try for both. The game is easy to understand and to watch, most English get it really quickly due to Cricket knowledge, and the game can be a test of patience and tactics with occasional home runs, not every ball gets hit out the park.

Anything else that I can help with about coming here for a trip just ask, I lived in LA for 5 years before moving a few miles south down behind the Orange Curtain.

He's the thing boys.

I'm a huge long term NFL fan.
An avid listener to PTI. (podcast)
I've got into the NBA this season, due to PTI and the trials and tribulations of the Heat.

So now with Baseball on the horizon and a summer of PTI, what do I need to do, to get it 'under my skin'. Cos at the moment (all of last summer) it just left me cold.

It's all about the TWINS!

After two years of being swept by the Yankees in the division series, this year is PAYBACK!

Sounds great. My Top Tip would be DON'T GO TO OAKLAND.
If the Giants are at home when you are in San Francisco, go there.
If not and Oakland are at home, don't settle for going over the bridge to go there instead.
Awful place, awful ground, awful fans.

I haven't been to Dodger Stadium, but I have seen the Angels. Don't overlook a game in Anaheim when you are in L.A. I enjoyed my night game there.

Similar story with me, though, switch PTI for around the horn. I wish the UK could do a programme half as good as around the horn!

Went to AT&T last august take a warm coat it was cold even then in the SFO mist

Candlestick Park was even worse - coldest ballpark in the Major Leagues. They failed to do an analysis of the winds off the Bay ...

Anyone up for an Albion fans fantasy baseball league? The ESPN free leagues are pretty good....

If enough takers, I'll put up a league address and password.

If you don't have a car go to the Giants - stadium is an easy walk form the city centre, Dodgers stadium is very difficult to get to by public transport and get tickets now

Not quite true, things have changed a lot in the last few years.

And tickets for the Dodgers are always readily available, the cheap seats on are mostly POTD, with quite a few options to pick up others season tickets at places such as:

Looks like the NL East favorites the Phillies might have a few injury problems. Dominic Brown has been sidelined for at least 3 months after breaking his hand last week and Chase Utley’s injured knee has not responded to cortisone shots and there is some doubt he may play at all this season. Manager Charlie Manuel is said to be very concerned about his No. 3 hitter.

The Phillies still have the best rotation in the Major Leagues, but the bullpen is shaky, and Ben Francisco is no Jayson Werth. The Braves and the darkhorse Marlins will push them all the way in the NL East ...

ok, we went last summer and all the info we could find before hand suggested it was difficult, although getting there was fairly easy it look very difficult to get back to our hotel after the game, partly becuase LA is such a vast city

Fair piont.

Apologies if I came across a little harsh, sunday morning, 2 kids and a hangover = not as clear and concise as one should be.

LA is one of the ugliest, largest urban sprawls ever, really not my cup of tea. The wife worked in downtown for years, really, really disliked it, saying that they have vastly improved the area around Staples and the Convention center recently, but in true American style, they are now talking about pulling down some fairly recent buildings (including moving the effin huge Convention center) to accommodate a new American Football stadium, in order to bring the game back to LA after a nearly 20 year absence.

The seaside.
Been going over to Boston every April to take in 4 or 5 mighty Red Sox games for the past six years, but too skint this year boo. Shame as we probably have our best roster in decades this season. Still, mlb.tv is great value, lets you watch all 2,430 regular season games online live for about a hundred quid. I will be subscribing as ever, even though watching a game usually means staying up til 6 or 7am...

Nope I have listened to ATH before, for me it's just a poor imitation.
I was thinking about it a while ago, and decided it's not what Mike & Mr Tony say, it's the way they say it.
I can't think of 2 better broadcasters (talking heads), there love of sport, language, and each other (not in a gay-lord way!) sets them apart.
There has to be a reason, other than sport, why I listen, during college basketball.
