Not sure if there has already been a thread on this so apologies if there is but Snooker is a sport very much close to my heart.

What does everyone make of Barry Hearn becoming new president of the WSPA??

I certainly think the sport needs to be marketed better and taken on a much more global definition but I don't want to see it stray too far from its roots. I would welcome the rumoured return of big break and a big break styled tournament but not sure about the attempt to make the audiences more raucous and timed events.

Don't think there's too much chance of it 'straying from its roots.' To most, it is boring, and as the next generation grow up, it will die out. Very good tactical and skilled game, but not interesting to watch.

I just hope he doesn't turn it into what he's done with the darts, and deflect away from the great entertainment and skill of the game.

I think the sport needs clear direction and management. Barry Hearn could well be the man to do it.

Globalisation would appear to be the key to me. The sport is mahooossive in the far east, and I'm not sure the WPBSA has tapped that anywhere near the extent to which is should have done.

He certainly to change the times of the games.

How can it be a good spectator sport when the final goes past midnight?
