Barry George to get a retrial

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7095885.stm

Quite right too, IMHO.

The conviction doesn't seem safe to me, even though he may have done it. If he didn't I can't imagine what motive anyone else would have had.

But even if he did it's not right to convict him unless there is enough evidence, and the evidence seems a bit shaky and circumstantial to me.

Murderer or hapless scapegoat - not sure really. The programmes on him (while obviously biased to make a point) all make the so-called evidence very dodgy, so from them alone a retrial sounds about right.

1. It looks to me as though he is innocent of the murder of Jill Dando.
2. The guy's previous plus his deranged behaviour demonstrate that he should be locked up for a long time to protect the public.

Summary - Right outcome, wrong reason.

It does appear over the years that the police are not averse to framing some slightly simple weirdo, rather than actually try and catch the murderer.

I fear Barry George may well fall into this category, and just listening to it today it's frightening someone could be convicted on evidence that flimsy.

You cant lock people up for being mentally disabled anymore.

If he is let out I am making a list of TV presenters and newsreaders that I think the general public would generally accept being murdered if done in a humane way.

Did Bulsara (real name Barry George but cool name Bulsara) kill Dando?

The jury will again decide.

P.s. Bulsara looks like Paul Young in the photo.

I believe his use of the name Bulsara comes from the fact that he's a big Freddie Mercury (whose real surname it was) fan.

The guy has mental health issues so I personally think he didn't do it. All the evidence seems to point in the direction of a professional contract killing.

Will be a very different trial this time, since I understand his past convictions will come into play ?

I've no feeling either way whether he is guilty or not, but how does anyone get hold of a gun ?

Very easily if you know the right people.

I noticed that the judges have said that the verdict is unsafe and ordered a re-trial not found him not guilty, so the evidence in their eyes, was not so compelling to aquit him completely.
