I take your point, but Treasury forecasts have proved to be very inaccurate in recent years, and the Tories formulated their manifesto commitments some months ago.

I think the public needs to cut them some slack. Changes to tax and benefits have to be made and people need to accept it. Given the severity of the situation it's actually not that much pain, i.e. no changes to the Basic Rate of tax, NI or corporation tax.

But those figures in the spring were in line with the two previous quarters so I don't buy that things areworse than the position they were planning for in the 9 months ahead of the election.
