Not stats, just my opinion.

I have gone from a Barnes basher to someone that appreciates his place in the team and I would rather have Barnes through on goal than CMS.

Fair enough. He does a job and I'm happy to have him in the team. However to say Barnes is better than CMS because of his 'superior' defending is silly.

I think CMS and 'somebody' works well, but we just need that 'somebody' to be a 15 goal man also, thats the mark of a decent attacking lineup, goals from at least two strikers.

I agree. Its vital that we get that "somebody" in asap. I do however, think that when Barnes is played in a more advanced position he is more of an asset to us than in the more withdrawn role. If we can get someone in who does what Barnes does AND scores 15+ goals, then its all good to me!

I do still think that CMS will be off, if not in Jan then at the end of the season. I have a feeling that the offers that come in for him will be too good to refuse. As a result, rather than it being CMS + somebody, it will be somebody + Barnes or Hoskins or Buckley (if he stays).

Personally, I think Barnes brings more to the team as an overall BUT CMS is more of a handful as a striker to deal with. Comparing them like for like is not really feasible due to the differing natures of theirs roles in the "Grand Plan"

Just a point of comparison, bearing in mind they play in the same position more or less:

Barnes: Goals 4; Assists: 3
Zaha: Goals 5; Assists:3

I can imagine the Palace fans baying for Zaha's blood too considering his return is only one better in goals. Oh, wait...

I make it four assists:
Both of CMS's goals v Barnsley
Dobbie's v Peterborough
CMS v Ipswich

He also won a couple of freekicks we scored from (v Sheffield Wednesday and v Charlton), though the way Zaha goes down, I suspect the "won freekicks from which we scored" stat would be heavily in Zaha's favour.

Puts an interesting slant on a tired argument doesn't it?

I think Barnes could bang in 20 goals and make 20 assists and people would still get on his back ,at least some of the Barnes critics have had the good grace to recognize his contribution yesterday and hope it continues .I seem to recall a one Guy Butters who was constantly slated for a season whether it be his weight his footballing ability or if he looked at someone the wrong way ,then when people actually got of his back he was outstanding at the back and didnt put a foot wrong (scus the pun )
