Barnes appeal being considered

Having just watched that slomo, the immediate reaction of the other 9 players in shot, 3 Albion and 6 Burnley says a lot me. The 3 Albion players all raise both arms in appeal whilst not one Burnley player does anything other than try to play on and pretend nothing untoward has happened......

I think the slo-mo clip says it all, although (I count) 7 of their players are in the shot when the challenge is made, not one of them makes any appeal to the ref, all three Albion players do so immediately. I'm really glad we've put in an appeal.

If what you're saying is true (about the 4th official not seeing the Vincelot 'dig'), then he can't be sent off.

Reminiscent of Zidane being wrongly sent off in the 2006 World Cup Final. Or rather, morally the right decision, but technically wrong.

The problem is of course that the 4th official will have to admit he DIDN'T see it which would be a major climb down after claiming to have been the all seeing eye.

I think he saw a tussle (which had been going on for most of the first 5 mins), suspected something had happened and then when pointed out by the Burnley bench felt it was easier to go along with it rather than to admit he never saw it. Very weak and setting a very dangerous precedent.

As much as I believe Barnes should not have been sent off, I do think this appeal is going to do nothing but earn a four match ban.

The way he jumps into the tackle (McCann) is similar to the tackle Calderon was sent off for against Charlton last season, and he got the ball as well.

Again, means absolutely nothing. Means as much as saying "and he was wearing pink socks as well."

Well, the fourth game in question would be the Wrexham Cup Tie, for which we can comfortably cover his absence, so its pretty much a no-lose gamble.

Wasn't there a similar challenge against Barnes in the opening game against Donny. If I remember correctly,he jumped out of that challenge too, fell on the defender and wasn't sent off.Inconsistent refereeing imho.

What about the two footed lunge on El Abd as well?
Not to mention when their player hoofed it out for a corner then he gave a goal kick.

Noone had a very decent penalty shout IMO.

He made some very awful decisions.

Agree on the El Abd challenge

The Hoof out by their play took a massive defection of our play defo goal kick

The pen looked a fair shout - surprized the ref wasnt tempted to give it given what had gone on.

But there you go surprized Albion are appealing the barnes decision so he will get a 4 game ban now if he loses the appeal??

As above, the 4th game will br the Wrexham one, when we might be planning to play a few fringe players anyway.

Only if it is deemed a frivolous appeal, it isn't an automatic increase. Given we are not challenging the Vincelot red, I think that may work in our favour regarding judging whether the barnes appeal is considered frivolous (i.e. we show we are only chalenging after considering the incidents, and accept that the first is a red, but genuinely question the second, it isn't an appeal for the sake of appeal).

Did we appeal Taricco's red? If not, not appealing that may also work in our favour.
