Anyone suggest where to stay/ where not to stay for a 3/4 day break ???

Which is the best area to stay in for sightseeing, restaurants etc etc.

Thanks

Try to get a hotel close to Las Ramblas (sp), quite a lot happens around there, loads of restaurants etc located in the squares just off the main drag and you're not too far from places like the Olympic village.

If you are flying don't bother with a taxi to the town. The bus service is VERY regular and inexpensive and takes you al the way in. The Metro system is friggin excellent too and also very cheap.

Thanks for that.

Steer well clear of Las Ramblas then !!!!! I think I'll look for a hotel slightly out of the centre.
But there are a few hotels (or "pensions" - B+Bs but without breakfast) right in the centre on the street between Catalunya and the cathedral (not the Sagrada Famila). I stayed there once, it was ACE.

Yep, but take care - as you'll have obviously just stepped off the plane with stickered up luggage, you'll be a prime target for pickpockets working the main Metro and bus routes into town hoping to relieve you of your recently exchanged euros.

Agreed. Although those tourist buses are excellent there too, unlike their tacky counterparts in London. They run on two main routes, no irritating commentary and briskly connect up all the sites.

DO order black rice - paella made with squid ink. Avoid the Basque tapas place on Gracia, it's a rip-off - but DO go to the Boqueria market on the Ramblas, best market I've been to. They even have a stall selling INSECTS to eat.
