But if he CAN somehow make it intact to the Presidency, won't that be the best thing EVER? Every other government worth it's salt will fall in line and the world might just end up a better place. Fingers crossed eh?
Will it though. As usual, Obama has been courting the Jewish vote with you usual "we'll stand by Israel" bollocks. I'd like it if just once this didn't happen so that Israel behaved in a more reasonable manner and actually *negotiated* with the arabs and without the USA fighting its corner.

Americans are a great and generous people, but in seven years, George Dubbya has alienated most of the world against them. Obama is the man to reverse this trend.

That is the perfect summary for me. But I'm afraid it won't be long before someone takes a pot at him:down:

He does seem to have some idea as to why America is not looked on favourably by many people and countries in the rest of the world. Far too many Americans seem to think that the whole world should love them and can't understand why many do not. To me, that is the biggest problem in the American psyche, and one that will finally be their undoing. This basic lack of knowledge about other people, countries and customs. Only a small proportion ever travel outside the States and many that do go from American hotel to American hotel never getting a real feel for the place or the people.

For a huge country they are very insular.

when i gather he is very much centre/left of the Republican party.

This is approximately like calling a mountain 'a very small Alp'.

I'd have to agree with that. Acknowledging a problem is the first step to solving it.

If a US leader came out with "we'll let Israel stand on its' own and offer no backing", you just know what would happen next, don't you?

If he has a reasoned outlook to try negotiating like Clinton did internationally, then there'd be hope for a simmering down in that area of the world, making way for more rational future dialogues there.

It's the "kinder gentler New World Order", "crusade" of Bush and his Reps, that the World can do without.

Yes, but the huge country actually is the size of our continent - so it would be way more pertinent to say that someone from a SMALL country would be strange to be insular.

Britons on the continent haven't exactly covered us in glory, either!
You can't accuse the English of being rude, xenophobic, racist, bolshy mouthy louts now can you?
Oh that's right - you can.

I hope he's right, but the sad fact is, we're the Saudi Arabia of stupid. And I say that as a proud American.

Don't know about the rest of the States but the New Yorkers in my office say a lot of people (including blacks) just have a gut feeling that there is something not quite right about Obama. They also get annoyed when they are accused of being racist (or disloyal if they are black) when they say they wont be voting for him - they say the reason is they just don't trust the guy.

Whoopie Goldberg opened up the whole race debate again - she was all over the local papers a few weeks ago when she used the N-word repeatedly on The View (putting the censor into overdrive) and then reduced one of her co-presenters to tears. She said America is still split into black and white and this will play a big part in the election.

Bit of a pointless post. I'm sure you could also find an office where people say there is something good about Obama.

Not at all. This was just passing on the oppinions of the folks I work with. They are card carrying Americans who will be voting on November 6. Agreed, this is hearsay evidence but so are 90% of the posts which are posted on NSC - does that make them pointless as well.

Yeah - you can always go to a different office/ bar and get an alternate oppinion, or one that agrees with your own view - big deal.

If Obama doesn't walk this election it will show America to be what so many think it is. All the Americans I know (there's quiet a few) are 100% behind him, he will be a truly great president given a chance.

Fair point.

I totally agree with this.
