As someone who has lived in West Sussex all my life, Toad is a game I only heard of when I started working in Lewes and which seems to be very much local to Lewes and the surrounding villages

Also big in Latin American as well as parts of Spain. I think I heard a bloke from Lewes introduced it to Sussex after discovering it in South America.

When I worked in Chichester (in the 80’s) we used to go to the Crown & Anchor in Dell Quay. They had a bar billiards table, table skittles and a throw the ring on the bulls nose set up. Looking at the website now, I doubt if any of that is still there today.

I remember my dad regularly playing ‘the bar’ through. Ten thousand brakes were common with him. He never let me win.

Used to love playing bar billiards in the late 60's/early 70.s at The Wilmington - Patcham (my then local). Bet it or the pub aren't there anymore!
The Wilmy is still there but I don’t there’s a bar billiards table - I played along the road at the Ladies Mile.

A couple of Withdean stalwarts, Locky and Nigel, used to play bar billiards for England if memory serves. Maybe they still do. Think they drink in The Swan before home games nowadays

Bar Billiards in one thread, Subbuteo in another, and the old King Alfred in a further. You begin to think we're a bunch of old has-beens on here.

Anyone for shove-ha'penny?
I’ve got a shove ha’penny board…..and bagatelle. But I’d love a bar billiards table and I have room for it…..but just need to sneak it in when the wife is out.

I converted my garage to a man cave with the intention of getting a bar billiards table. Best laid plans and all that - my son moved in there.
Loved shove ha’penny

So you’re replacing your wife with a billiards table?

I took the plunge and bought one a few years back and installed in my man shed.

Got quite good at it but haven't played for a year or so.

I thought that Toad in the Hole was a sausage in a Yorkshire pudding? I grew up in Seaford and have never heard it described as a game. Confused, com

I'm surprised you'd never heard of Toad in the Hole. Though thinking about it, it was always much bigger in Lewes pubs than in Brighton.
Nope never. We were lucky to have a pool table in Uckfield! 😃
I see Lewes hosts the world championships. I might take it up & see if I can join Ali Mac as a world beater.
