I can think of maybe a handful of specific people - not 'pals' - off the top of my head from a range of contacts (work, golf club etc) who I've heard being racist, sexist or homophobic, all in their 40s or 50s. I can't think of a single instance from either of my kids (both in their 20s) sets of friends................

With that kind of mindset, it's sometimes less egoistic people wanting to keep up with the work / club knuckle dragger, so as to fit in.
Bullying in other words.
Still no place in todays society.

Sometimes perhaps........I have one acquaintance for example (fellow member of my former golf club) who is simply outright racist. Calling him out on it makes no difference - he just can't see it. It's bizarre - a real 70s throwback (or what I recall being much more prevalent in the 70s anyway). He runs his own company..............

I work with a few 'old school' drivers, who seem to think it's still ok to use the terminology for a generic corner shop.
Only said when the rest of the mixed cultural work force aren't about.
I'm bemused when they don't get collared for it.

Ah yes - taxi drivers, especially up North. Last time I got a cab from Manchester airport I got a rant from the driver about 'p*** drivers'...............when I got out I carefully handed over the exact fare. He said 'no tip mate ?'.................................'No, I don't tip racists'
