Yep. My bank sent a charges statement so I did not have to trawl through years of statements and that is what you should have asked for, not a statement.

It is a simple procedure just take it step by step and you will get it all back if you are relentless.

Well Ive started it this way...so I may aswell finish it this way...

I'll send another letter tonight...to the same bloke saying they have exceeded the 40 days and I want all my statements from the last 6 years within 7 days.

Did you go overdrawn?

Did you have DD's returned ?

Did you bounce cheques ?

Yes the fees are unfair and too high, however surely you knew what the penalties were when opening your account ?

Yes I went overdrawn...so so many times

Not many DD's returned..but a few

Well..Due to unforseen circumstances that occured in my life over the past 3 ish years my finances have spiralled and I havent had a proper grip on them and have spent quite a bad period of living hand to mouth...like so many do....But I went overdrawn trying to put food on the table....and it made me so angry...it wasnt as if I was taking the piss and spending on credit cards or doing benefit fraud and they just bang me with £40 every-time.

THE FCUKERS WILL PAY FOR THIS!

Nah, the NW are bastards. I requested a list of charges over the last six years and they sent me six years of bank statements through the post instead. The envelope was ripped to shreds when it arrived, held together with rubber bands. They'll do whatever they can to put you off claiming or make it as difficult a task as possible. As is what they're doing in Byf's case.

I totalled up about £650 quid in charges, plus interest, makes a tidy £750 or so. I've not yet claimed this back, however, as there are a few 'charges' I'm unsure about. But fingers crossed, they'll pay-out in the next couple of months.

It's a really simple procedure, as long as you follow the step-by-step processes listed all over the internet, you have a bit of patience and can put up with their various delaying tactics.

Whether he knew it or not the charges and whatever he signed to that effect are unlawful and the contract will not hold up in court. You could sign a pice of paper saying that "If I go overdrawn you can punch me in the face" doesn't make it legal.

So every charge that I find on the statements they send me....I can add up and ask for it back?

True but not always as easy as that - I got made redundant three times in two years and could not get any benefits for most of that time- This lead to me being overdrawn, then the bank recalled my overdraft and f***ed me up good and proper.

The problem I have is that banks see you struggling and continue to drive you into deeper debt. I didn't spend loads on credit cards etc just had trouble meeting my obligations.

No, not every charge. There's a list of the charges you CAN claim for on that MoneySavingExpert website. Stuff like fines for bouncing a cheque, going over your OD limit etc etc.

You can't claim for things like overdraft interest charges or the monthly fee for having a NatWest Advantage Gold account etc etc

I keep hearing about claiming back 6 years worth of charges is this because they are only obliged to give you back copies for this period. I have old statements dating back 10 to 12 years what do you reckon the chances of getting it all back
