My TV has just gone SPARK BANG SPARK... I am presuming the tube has just blown and there's a splendid rubbery sniff in the air...

My question to you good people of NSC is which make of TV would you recommend for me to buy?...

:(

DON'T buy a telly from Tesco or Asda or those such place that shouldn't be selling tellies. They're shite and will go SPARK BANG SPARK in less than a year.

I'd go to somewhere like Richer Sounds myself. Knowing what a lazy slob couch potato you are, Simon, you will want a super-dupey wizzy one. In which case, provided you can put up with the snotty ubergeeks in there who can blind you with their nerdspeak, you should get some decent help from them. Prices aren't too bad either.

Get a HD TV, not a cheap one from a supermarket, but a good one from Currys, Dixons, Maplin etc etc.

I was idly perusing the TV's in Currys this very lunchtime. Saw a nice HD 36'' LG for £800. Dunno what LG are like though.

What is it with all this HD stuff? I've got a bog standard tv at home with Sky and there is nothing wrong with the picture or sound quality whatsoever. Isn't it just a load more money for something that isn't really that great ?

If you have a HD TV, the difference is stunning.

If you don't, you'll be spending 400 quid on a shiny brick that does no more than a Sky+ box.

And its not yet worth the cost of buying a HDTV to get the limited (possibly as low as 1 hour/day on Sky) of stunning quality HD content.

If you ever intend to watch RTÉ, a UKTV channel, BBC3 or 4, Sky News, or any channel where theres something static on screen all the time, get an LCD, because you'll f*** the plasma.
