I’ve been given a Bang & Olufsen Beocord 1900 tape deck. Haven’t got a clue about this kind of stuff but what other system do I need to be able to play cassettes on this?

Tried the web but it’s a bit confusing and don’t want to spend a load of money on something when it’s not needed.

Help anyone?

Disappointing you aren't receiving the advice you requested.

Mind you, a piece of 120 year old hi fi kit may have most of the experts stumped.

Right... I'm here.

Yes, I have specialised in Bang & Olufsen for almost 20 years and I do know a bit about it... :hilton:

The BeoCord 1900 was pretty much top of the range when introduced. I think it was late 70's.

B&O Cassette decks aren't very collectible though, so it has little monetary value sadly.

The most common faults are the drive belts failing. They can either go brittle and snap, or they just turn to black snot and clog up all the workings - making them a sod to have repaired (I don't do this myself - I just deal in the stuff... Well, basic repairs I can do, but....)

If the deck plays fine, it's probably been serviced before you got it - which is a good thing.

The connection lead is probably a 5 or 7 pin Din (pins 1 and 7 can be removed to connect to non-B&O). It will need connecting to either a B&O Amp or Music System (most likely using the DIN connection) or most non-B&O amps have the standard Phono connections (Red/White) and you can buy a converter on eBay/Amazon for pennies to connect.

PM me and I'd be happy to give you advice which would normally send NSC to sleep.

PS : Justice - you probably have a BeoLab 7.1 or 7.2. Cracking speakers available for pennies now.

Despite all the technology we have nowadays, you really can’t beat B & O , the quality is fantastic. Expensive yes but well worth every penny in my opinion.

I often pop into the church rd branch in Hove to look round .
