I can remember there used to be a record shop - can't remember what it was called - in Worthing around by the back entrance of Bentalls by the Cinema (Odeon?) near Montague Terrace. Their window around the release of "In the Land of Grey and Pink" (very late 1960s or early 1970's?) was full of advertising material for it. It's an album i still very happily listen to to this day, along with much of what they did afterwards. "In the Land of Grey and Pink, where only boy scouts stop to think......"

Edit - released April 8th 1971 - the year I did my A-Levels.

And when I moved to Faversham I found that on certain evenings it IS the land of grey and pink :lolol:

They claim that their quests for greatness was always scuppered by dodgy managers. Hmmm . . . .

My fave album of theirs is the first. Pop psychedelia. Lovely

Gene October!......A band I was in supported Chelsea back in around 92 at The Madeira Hotel. Empty venue.

Saw them at the (old) Marquee in 77. Supported by Skrewdriver (before the lead singer became a mentalist). Odd double bill - gay soft porn star meets nascent neo Nazi. I bet there was tension in the dressing room. Hang on . . . . possibly not :lolol:

I was surprised to find out that Mark Radcliffe was in Skrewdriver in their pre-Nazi days.

Here's a few 80s bands that spring to mind. Amazulu, The Belle Stars, Westworld. I was in love with the lead singer of Westworld. Their finest tune, in my opinion:

Haha, yeah maybe. That was a strange billing although didn't Skrewdrivers head of security turn out to be a gay guy?

No idea, mate. Funny lot, the 80s neo Nazis. Well, when I say 'funny' . . . :shootself:lolol:

So would I know the name of your band?

Chelsea (the Band!) I see are still knocking around, brings back memories of a delinquent youth..

Saw them support The Buzzcocks, along with The Members, a few months ago in Manchester.

Gene had been for a Chinese meal pre gig so had to sing sitting down for the whole gig as a bit full.

Great gig though.

All the Shoegazing Era Bands of the 1990's seem to have drifted away into obscurity.

You never hear any radio play for Curve, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Lush, Pale Saints or the Boo Radleys, all of whom produced some stonking stuff.

Ride reformed last year and saw them twice. Still got it, although Andy Bell's voice is even weaker than ever.

The Chameleons. Mark Burgess is still touring the albums. Open warfare with John Lever though .
